Position Summary:


Reporting to the Director of Capital and Maintenance, the Planner is the "quarterback" of the Maintenance department and plays a key role in managing and coordinating Work Management activities.

The Planner is responsible and provides technical planning, scheduling, and cost control assistance to all levels of the maintenance team.

This includes developing final logical work sequences, cost estimates and resource allocations, update and maintain records in computerized maintenance management system, (SAP).


A snapshot of some of the exciting things you will do:

  • Ensure the work prioritization process is adhered to.
  • Review Work Requests for accuracy, duplication and convert to Work Orders.
  • Prioritize and schedule all work orders onto the planning board.
  • Develop comprehensive, thorough maintenance job plans that facilitate the safe and effective execution of work.
  • Ensure that our people and resources are used in the most efficient way, including minimizing production disruptions.
  • Work along side Maintenance Managers towards improvements of identified KPI's.
  • Determine the scope, general strategy (repair/replace) and coordination requirements of work.
  • Participate in weekly Capital and Maintenance meetings.
  • Maintain weekly/monthly progress reports on execution of schedule and work orders.
  • Maintain charting systems (Gantt charts, Flow diagrams) for the scheduling function.
  • Visit sites on occasion with the goal of increasing team productivity by removing all obstacles to executing the work safely, correctly and with minimum downtime and effort.
  • Maintain schedule loading and publish a 4week horizon schedule with the understanding of resource availability, operational requirements and a knowledge of time, cost, and quality estimating.
  • Plan and schedule within budgeted overtime limits.
  • Participate in the Maintenance department's continuous improvement, strategy deployment, and knowledge collection
  • Collect and track KPIs related to the planning and scheduling function.
  • Participate and assist with corporate Asset Reliability tasks, functions, and reporting.

What you will bring:


  • Grade 12 plus up to 2 years of study in a related field, technical school diploma at a community college, university or equivalent, plus a trade, apprenticeship, or operating training.
  • Minimum of three years' experience in the maintenance field, including experience related to asset reliability in a complex process facility.
  • A journeyman's ticket, PMP and/or related technical diploma are highly preferred.
  • Must possess excellent skills in:
  • Oral and written communication
  • MS computer programs
  • Researching, Problem solving, Troubleshooting
  • Organization and time management
  • Experience with providing direction to others
  • Proven experience with SAP and computerized systems
  • Logistic coordination would be considered an asset
  • Ability to travel to various work locations/sites to conduct field investigations.
