Position Summary:


The Programming & Collections Manager is responsible for assembling, cataloging, managing, and presenting the Sharon Temple National Historic Site Collection and Buildings.

The position will create analog and digital tools for engagement and outreach around our artifacts, buildings and stories of the Children of Peace and early settlers to East Gwillimbury.

In this role you will assist with the development, implementation, and delivery of all events and public programs both on and off the site.

Further, this position will administer the Volunteer Program and oversee Gift Shop Operations.


Special Events:


  • Assist with the planning of the six core events held on the site each year.
  • Execute implementation of all site events, including acquiring the necessary materials and volunteers.
  • Develop special events that appeal to various demographics.

Collections & Museum Management:


  • Cataloging, inventorying, and digitizing of the artifact collection including the ascension of new items coming into the collection.
  • Regularly assess collection for cleaning, repair, and maintenance
  • Assume primary responsibility of the Heritage Buildings and site including security and maintenance. Direct and oversee staff to ensure buildings are always clean and orderly.
  • Oversee any restoration work being done to historic building or artifacts, document and keep records of same
  • Deliver a positive museum visitor experience ensuring staffing and resources necessary to effectively serve visitors and deliver positive visitor engagement.
  • Assume responsibility for the Site Disaster Plan and Fire Emergency Plan
  • Prepare Grant Applications for MAP, Documentary Heritage & CMOG. Assist with the writing of the Summer Student Grant Application.
  • Plan, design and implement new exhibits annually and ensure the removal of old exhibits.
  • Recruit, train and supervise interns or summer students working in the Collections, Research & Museum related activities.
  • Oversee the operation of the Gift Shop, ordering all supplies and ensuring a visually attractive presentation of merchandise.

Education & Camp Programs:


  • Communicate with schools and educators to promote programs primarily via social media.
  • Implement programs as booked, including acquiring the necessary materials, staff, and volunteers.
  • Coordinate with the Town of East Gwillimbury for registration for our camps and to publicize the camp programs.

Public Programs & Outreach Programs:


  • Develop, plan, and implement interpretive youth, family & senior programs.
  • Develop programs that meet Girl Guide and Boy Scouts badge requirements; communicate with leaders to promote the programs.
  • Develop programs that meet the needs of Seniors in the area, including working with representatives of Senior living residences to promote these programs.
  • Implement programs as booked, including acquiring the necessary materials and volunteers.

Donor & Volunteer Programs:


  • Assist the Executive Director with the organization and production of quarterly Tales of the Temple annual Temple Trees publication.
  • Recruit, train and retain a stable group of volunteers.
  • Coordinate and conduct all onsite group tours.
  • Developing and maintaining effective communications with clients and museum visitors, including monitoring of telephone and electronic messages.

Additional Responsibilities:


  • Serve as the STMS YDAMA Liaison
  • Implement the STMS social media strategy ensuring that postings are done on a regular basis, at least twice weekly.
  • Ensure that the website is updated and maintained in a timely manner.
  • Conduct tours of the site or outreach activities as required.
  • Check Trip Advisor and Google reviews biweekly and respond to poster.
