Position Overview

  • The Parks Department is looking to hire two (2), regular fulltime Crew Lead
  • Natural Areas. The position involves the supervision of a group of subordinates engaged in trail maintenance and environmental restoration work. The incumbent is a working supervisor and drives a light truck to transport crew, equipment and materials used in the work. Duties are performed according to a predetermined schedule and to established methods and practices. Work performance is reviewed by a superior in terms of effective supervisory services rendered.

The successful applicants will:


  • Assign, supervise and assist in the work of a group of subordinates engaged in trail maintenance and environmental restoration duties operating a variety of hand tools and equipment in trail maintenance tasks.
  • Ensure the regular maintenance service and repair of trail maintenance equipment used by the crew.
  • Prepare and maintain simple records related to the work.
  • Perform pretrip inspection and drive a light truck to transport crew, equipment and materials used in the work.
  • Ensure the safety of the crew and public by enforcing the use of proper safety precautions.
  • Assist supervisor with work planning and inspections.
  • Assist with volunteer and outreach events.
  • Perform related work as required.

Desired skills and experience:


  • Working knowledge of the methods, practices, equipment and materials used in trail maintenance and environmental restoration.
  • Ability to supervise and assist in the work of a group of subordinates performing trail maintenance and environmental restoration duties.
  • Ability to operate safely and efficiently to ensure proper maintenance of a variety of trail maintenance equipment.
  • Ability to prepare and maintain simple operational records.
  • Skill in the use and care of a variety of tools and trail maintenance equipment used in the work.

Qualifications:


Grade 12 supplemented by training or education in natural resource management or recreation management, with considerable experience in trail maintenance, environmental restoration and related parks operations including some supervisory experience, or an equivalent combination of training, and experience.

A valid class 5 B.C.

Driver's Licence, a valid Wildlife Danger Tree assessor Certificate and a valid ArborCanada Chainsaw Safety and Cutting Techniques Certificate are required.- We respectfully acknowledge the Coast Salish peoples, specifically the xwməθkwəy̓əm (Musqueam), Sḵwx̱wú7mesh Úxwumixw (Squamish), and səlilwətaɬ (Tsleil-Waututh), on whose ancestral lands the District of North Vancouver is located.
