Job Description:


  • Your Team
  • The Health & Safety Advisor (Construction) is primarily responsible for the overall operations of the health and safety management system throughout Calgary and as it relates to our Employer and Prime Contractor legislative obligations. The Health & Safety Advisor in conjunction with Safety Manager, Alberta, oversees and guides our health and safety management system, and develops and implements programs and initiatives that drive a positive safety culture. The incumbent educates team members and trade partners and ensures maintenance of the Alberta Certificate of Recognition Standard (COR) and compliance with all legislative requirements issued by Occupational Health & Safety (OHS) and other government agencies.
  • Your Key Deliverables


  • Safety Legislation_

  • Maintain uptodate and indepth knowledge of construction safety regulations (OSHA/OHS) surrounding construction safety, develop and implement policies, procedures, and other companywide safety standards.
  • Maintain an understanding of, and ensure compliance with all provincial health and safety legislation, regulations, and codes.
  • Safety Training_
  • Manage thirdparty relationships with health and safety providers for annual health and safety updates and training compliance, as applicable.
  • Identify best practices and lead continuous improvement initiatives to reduce work process risks, raise health and safety awareness, and improve safe work practices and procedures.
  • Facilitate a work environment that supports a positive safe and healthy culture.
  • Provide technical advice, coaching, guidance, and mentoring to team members and leaders on safety initiatives and necessary changes, for Construction, Customer Care, Sales, office, and in our Communities.
  • Provide technical advice, coaching, guidance, and mentoring to trade partners in a collaborative and team approach.
  • Drive positive buyin and active participation in all aspects of the health and safety management system;
  • Incidents & Investigations_
  • Ensure investigations are conducted on incidents and close calls, and occupational injuries to determine causes, install preventive measures, and manage returntowork activities.
  • Safety Inspections_
  • Perform ongoing inspections, including appropriate follow up and documentation to ensure compliance by team members and trade partners, to relevant legislation, regulations, and the company safety program.
  • Must Haves
  • NCSO designation or equivalent, or certificate or diploma in OH&S from an accredited postsecondary institution in occupational safety;
  • Certified safety auditor accredited through the Alberta Construction Safety Association (ACSA);
  • Valid driver's license in good standing; years of experience in the construction industry; years of progressive construction safety experience;
  • Skilled at obtaining and processing information and providing actionable feedback to the organization;
  • Ability to build trust and confidence with management, teams, and trade partners;
  • Ability to drive positive organizational change within all aspects of health and safety.;
