Your role
Are you someone who is connected to the business community across Canada? Who knows how to find and tell original stories about the economy, consumer trends,and personal financial news?


In this role, you will be delivering sharp, audience-friendly business content daily to local morning radio shows across the country.

Strong on-air skills and the ability to tailor content to local markets across Canada is essential. Besides regional reflection, you will ensure that the widest possible range of voices is heard. You are a team player with good interpersonal skills and an open, energetic outlook.

You are committed to telling business stories from equity groups, including Black, Indigenous, people of Colour and people with disabilities.

You are adept at building relationships both with your immediate team and other units producing business content for CBC. You are constantly looking for ways to enhance our business offer to meet evolving audience needs.

  • Ability to generate, pitch and pursue strong, story ideas for primarily audio platforms.
  • A strong proven connection to the business community.
  • Strong onair skills in both a live and taped programming environment, with a demonstrated ability to interact with a variety of program hosts, and build relationships with programming teams across the county.
  • A proven work ethic in diverse teams.
  • Proven ability to build relationships with CBC program teams, including CBC Business units in Calgary and Toronto; and with local audiences across Canada.
  • Advanced knowledge of business news including audience expectations and industry trends.
  • Experience vetting, editing, factchecking and packaging business news content.
  • Ability to write stories based on gathered interviews or livestreamed events, filling gaps as needed.
  • A willingness to learn and tackle new tasks across all CBC platforms.
  • Sound news judgment and ability to work effectively under newsroom deadline pressure.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills; a standout colleague.
  • Ability to generate original, enterprise journalism.
  • High energy and enthusiasm towards journalism.
  • Proven ability to work with a virtual team.
  • Experience with selfoperating an audio board, and with audio gathering tools.
  • University degree in journalism or equivalent with a minimum of three years of recent, related experience in business journalism.
  • Must possess a valid driver's license and a driving record that meets the minimum requirements of CBC/Radio-Canada's insurance company, other classes considered an asset.
  • Ability to work a variety of shifts including early starts, late finishes and weekends.
