KEY FUNCTION:
Provide support to the technological aspects of simulation operations, including maintenance and repair of computerized manikins, task trainers, planning, implementation, and evaluation of simulation activities.
REPORTING:
Under the general direction of the Manager, Simulation Laboratory.
DUTIES:
- Provide daily logístical support for simulation activities, including preparing, settingup, and tearing down all skills and simulation areas as determined by faculty/instructors and learning objectives.
- Setup simulation equipment for clinical simulation activities.
- Operate computerized manikins, operating software, characteristics, programming, and Audio/Visual (A/V) equipment.
- Assist medical learners in navigating complex healthcare scenarios by acting as a health care provider during simulation activities.
- Conduct ongoing checks, maintenance, and repair (within Simulation Technician abilities) of health care simulation equipment and associated technology to ensure that all equipment is maintained in good working order.
- Locate and manage medical supplies needed to enhance delivery of simulation.
- Provide technical assistance, support, and training to faculty, instructors, learners, and staff in the use of simulation equipment.
- Interact with equipment manufacturers regarding equipment maintenance troubleshooting and system problems.
- Assist with maintaining the lab consumable inventory, medical gases, and supplies.
- Wash and sterilize surgical instruments used in skills lab.
- Maintain general cleanliness and tidiness of the lab.
- Perform annual inventory.
- Determine and align improvement projects with HSN's Strategic Plan; monitor and adjust to achieve goal outcomes.
- Participate in education and training specific to current, relevant federal and provincial health and safety legislation, standards and guidelines.
- Educate and promote health, safety and wellness in the work place.
- Represent the department or program on various committees and in meetings as required.
- Perform other duties as required.
QUALIFICATIONS
EDUCATION AND TRAINING:
- Minimum of a one (1) year Certificate in a Health Sciences field, from an accredited college.
- Ministry of Labour "Worker Health and Safety Awareness in 4 Steps" training certificate is required.
EXPERIENCE:
- Minimum of two (2) years' experience working in a Medical Simulation environment.
KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES:
- Demonstrated knowledge of Medical Terminology.
- Demonstrated excellent judgment and proven analytical skills.
- Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of the Ontario Hospital Association (OHA)/Ontario Medical Association's (OMA) Communicable Disease Surveillance Protocols.
- Demonstrated training, experience or utilization of Lean methodology for process improvement.
- Demonstrated ability to independently identify issues, plan improvements, measure success and continue improvement.
- Demonstrated excellent computer skills with proficiency in Microsoft Office software, e.g. Word, Excel, Power Point and Outlook and patient information systems.
- Demonstrated superior interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Demonstrated ability to manage routine correspondence, multiple tasks/projects, diversified workload and rapidly changing priorities and challenging deadlines.
- Demonstrated discretion and maturity when handling confidential information.
- Demonstrated commitment to the safety of coworkers and patients.
PERSONAL SUITABILITY:
- Successful Criminal Record Judicial Matters Check (CRJMC) is required.
- Ability to use tact and discretion in dealing with health care providers and faculty.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively as a member of an interdisciplinary team.
