The Department of Paediatrics at St. Michael's Hospital is an academic department, fully affiliated with the University of Toronto, Department of Medicine.Our department provides neonatal and pediatric services for southeast Toronto's diverse population and is considered a leader in urban neonatal, child, and youth health care as well as social pediatrics.
The Department's mission is to provide exemplary care for Toronto's inner city population, and our members are dedicated to caring for children who are vulnerable or at-disadvantage, whose social circumstances may provide barriers that impact their overall health and development.
The Fetal Alcohol Syndrome Disorder (FASD) Clinic is a MoHLTC funded clinic within ambulatory paediatrics at St. Michael's.This clinic draws on the unique strengths, experiences, and contributions of a multidisciplinary team in order to provide comprehensive diagnostic assessments to alcohol exposed children.
By identifying children with FASD, the team collaborates to provide expert recommendations to care partners for the ongoing care, support, and treatment of these children and their families.
As a member of the interdisciplinary team, the Psychologist will be responsible for providing testing, diagnostic clarification, and treatment recommendations to patients, families, and providers to contribute to clinical management of patients.
Other activities include:
Reviewing cases and documentation as part of the intake/triage process
Providing clinical consultation internally on client cases, recommending therapeutic approaches and clinical pathways for patients with FASD;
Administration and interpretation of psychometric measures to assess behavior, personality, social-emotional functioning, cognitive functioning and academic achievement within the context of Fetal Alcohol Syndrome
Writing reports and completing timely and relevant documentation according to policies and standards of practice of Unity Health and the College of Psychologists of Ontario; collaborating with internal/external health care providers and communicating both verbally and in writing with stakeholders;
Providing continuity of care to individuals receiving services throughout their time with the FASD clinic; ensuring maintenance of therapeutic relationship with the team Advocating for clients on a systems level as, necessary;
Maintaining workload measurement statistics, as necessary.
QUALIFICATIONS
Completed Doctoral level degree in Psychology from a program accredited by the Canadian or American Psychological Associations
Two years of clinical experience in paediatrics, preferred experience with FASD
Current and unrestricted registration or eligibility for registration with the College of Psychologists of Ontario
Demonstrated ability to conduct comprehensive assessments, provide recommendations and consultation
Experience in a range of empirically supported individual and group-therapeutic modalities,
Competence in trauma informed care
Demonstrated strengths in assessment, consultation, teaching, interprofessional collaboration
Demonstrated excellent attendance and punctuality record
A demonstrated interest and aptitude for participation in scholarly activities
Excellent oral and written communication skills, interpersonal skills, and the ability to work effectively in a dynamic team environment are essential
This position is two days a week, requiring in person attendance in the clinic on Fridays. The second day is flexible, with remote work options available.
