    Job Description

  • Develop mechanical equipment specifications for various industrial equipment required in the processing of raw materials for the forest products industry including related industries such as biorefining, water and effluent treatment plants, energy production, and chemical handling.
  • Assemble technical proposal and inquiry bid documents for industrial process equipment.
  • Prepare vendor bid evaluations.
  • Review of vendor proposals for compliance with design criteria specified, performance specifications and regulatory codes.
  • Perform reviews of Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEM) drawings and design for suitability in the implementation of their designs within the overall project requirements.
  • Perform design calculations to validate and verify process equipment selections.
  • Review specifications, drawings and vendor equipment documentation from both within the mechanical engineering discipline and with other engineering disciplines in the company for compliance with the project requirements.
  • Execute pump calculations and select appropriate equipment for the application.
  • Assist process engineers with the development of process design criteria.
  • Familiarity with reading and/or the production of P&IDs.
  • Pipeline sizing.
  • Manage Line, manual valve and tie-in lists.
  • Perform pump calculations using Pipe-FLO.
  • Reviewing other Company discipline drawings for conformity with project requirements.
  • Prepare design briefs, technical reports and progress reports.
  • Ensure design meets company and industry standards, as well as regulatory codes.
  • Maintain and developing good working relationships with clients and colleagues to ensure the successful completion of projects.
  • Working with discipline leads in determining drawing requirements.
  • Conducting field measurements and verification of existing systems.
  • Possibility of occasional travelling (to project sites and/or client's meeting).
  • Qualifications

  • Member of or eligible to register with Professional Engineers Ontario (PEO).
  • Graduation from an accredited engineering program or equivalent combination of academic training and practical experience.
  • Knowledge of Aveva E3D (Aveva P&ID, Aveva Instrumentation, and Aveva Engineering) SmartPlant 3D and/or AutoCAD Plant 3D
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Excel and Google Sheets
  • Knowledge of process engineering concepts.
  • Knowledge of mechanical and piping engineering concepts.
  • Knowledge of processing plant equipment layout.
  • Pulp and paper experience
  • Experience with steam and condensate, compressed air, chemicals, and natural gas systems.
  • Bilingual French and English
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Details oriented
