We are looking for a bright, dynamic and collaborative individual to join our Government Relations team as Manager, Government Relations and Advocacy.


Reporting to the Head of Government Relations, the Manager, Government Relations and Advocacy oversees OREA's grassroots advocacy programs and contributes to the development and implementation of a coordinated government relations strategy which helps support the creation of a legislative and regulatory environment that is favorable to REALTORS and real estate.

He/she will stay abreast of all legislation, public policy and regulations that affect REALTORS and the real estate profession and will monitor and gather information in order to provide briefing materials, critical analysis and recommendations related to the Association's key strategic initiatives.


Responsibilities:

Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:

  • Researching the background of specific issues including identifying the current status in the policy development process, party positions, key decision makers; assessing its impact on organized real estate; identifying other key stakeholders; and, developing suggestions for an OREA position
  • Leading the organization's grassroots political organization and mobilizing campaigns, including volunteer training and engagement.
  • Managing OREA's online data collection/analysis program.
  • Liaising with local boards to arrange meetings with local MPPs and staff.
  • Participating in our direct advocacy efforts via meetings with MPPs and events on behalf of OREA.
  • Help lead the planning of OREA's Ontario Political Affairs Conference.
  • Lead our annual "fall lobby day" efforts by arranging for meetings between MPPs and our grassroots Members in Toronto.
  • Leading/managing the administration of OREA's Issues Mobilization Grant Program that is available to local real estate Boards.
  • Additional duties as assigned by the Head of Government Relations.

Qualifications and Skills:


  • University Degree in Political Science or Public Administration.
  • Three to five years of experience at Queen's Park or the Ontario government as a political staff person or public servant, or other relevant experience.
  • Familiarity with government bureaucracies, protocol, and decisionmaking and policydevelopment processes.
  • Ability to identify and understand emerging policy developments, as well as an understanding of how to develop and implement policy.
  • Ability to understand, interpret and analyze government legislation and regulation.
  • Related experience with online data collection and analysis would be considered an asset.
  • Excellent research and analytical skills.
  • Superior written and oral communication skills.
  • Proven ability to work accurately and well under pressure.
  • Excellent problem solving and critical thinking skills.
  • Valid driver's license is an asset but not required.
