Responsibilities:
- Provide sign language interpretation for individuals who are deaf or hard of hearing in various settings, such as educational institutions, healthcare facilities, business meetings, and community events.
- Maintain confidentiality and adhere to professional ethics and standards.
- Prepare for interpreting assignments by reviewing relevant materials and familiarizing oneself with specialized vocabulary.
- Collaborate with other interpreters, clients, and stakeholders to ensure effective communication.
Position as an Certified ASL Instructor in teaching Adult American Sign Language classes as well as Workplace Workshops and other ASL instruction as offered within the company.
Available and open to teach remote sessions and in person.
Openness to assist in supervision and field placement when necessary to new staff.
Co-ordinate, implement and facilitate ASL class lessons with head office.
Participate in program and department meetings as required.
Flexible schedule with the ability to work evening classes and periodic weekend immersion classes and/or workshops.
Submitting all required student grading and evaluation reports in a timely manner
Provide students with a written syllabus at the beginning of the course.
To accommodate varied learning styles develop creative learning activities
Oversee, plan and execute teaching material for classes/clients while ensuring course outline is consistent with SN Curriculum.
Maintain instructor files for each level of instruction including activities and programs for easy future access and consistency of instruction.
Assist in promoting ASLBB through Social media etc would an asset.
Requirements:
- Certification or licensure as a sign language interpreter (e.g., RID certification).
- Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) and knowledge of other sign languages as required.
- Strong understanding of deaf culture and the unique needs of individuals who are deaf or hard of hearing.
- Excellent communication skills, both in sign language and spoken language.
- Ability to adapt to different environments and handle challenging situations.
- Knowledge of specialized vocabulary in various fields, such as education, healthcare, legal, or business.
- Familiarity with assistive technology used by individuals who are deaf or hard of hearing
- Instructor must be fluent in American Sign Language
- Successful completion of High school (Grade 12)
- Successful completion/trainging of Dawn Sign Press "Signing Naturally" Curriculum Levels One and two andor higher.
- Extensive knowledge, understanding and relationship with Deaf community and culture.
- Demonstrated ability to effectively work with persons of varied backgrounds suxh as: diverse cultural, diability, socioeconomic, ethnic backgrounds etc.
- Possesses valid full G Driver's license and is willing to travel for assignments when needed. (Compensation for mileage covered)
- Experience teaching in remote environment an asset
- Flexible and willing to work varied hours as requested. This may include evening (up to 9:00 pm) and Saturdays.
- Experience required in computer assisted instruction including the use of platforms needed to teach/present remotely.
- Experience required in computer assisted instruction including the use of platforms needed to teach/present remotely.
- Highly developed skills such as; interpersonal, leadership, and organizational.
- Ablity to meet deadlines, particularly when faced with competing priorities.
- Successful completion of Dawn Sign Press "Signing Naturally" (SN) Curriculum training for levels One and two (minimum) and or higher
