The Middlesex Hospital Alliance (MHA) is seeking a dynamic and engaging VP Corporate /CFO/CIO to join its' senior leadership team.

This is an excellent opportunity for a qualified and motivated leader to assume a pivotal role in this well regarded organization.


As a critical member of the MHA's senior leadership team reporting to the President & CEO, the VP Corporate and CFO will be a trusted partner to the CEO and will provide expert counsel and direct the fiscal operations, provide clear, concise financial information, and make sound, educated decisions for the organization as well as participate in the organization's financial and operational decision-making processes.

This role is responsible for leading and monitoring the overall system-wide management of the hospital's financial planning, analysis, reporting and operations with an operating budget of $61M.

We are seeking an individual who is dedicated to the measurement of performance and financial reporting with a clear focus on developing financial objectives in alignment with the MHA's vision, strategic direction and goals.

The CFO will serve as the senior source of advice, counsel and support in all areas of the financial management of the operations, fostering ethical, accountable decision making practices and stewardship of resources.

The VP of Finance will be responsible for financial planning and analysis, budgeting, forecasting, and accounting, as well as ensuring compliance with all federal, provincial and local laws and regulations.

The role also provides functional leadership for a portfolio of corporate services and acts as Chief Information Officers (CIO).


Responsibilities:


  • Accountable for coordinating the development of an annual operating plan including business plans, operational and capital requirements, and budgets that support the strategic plan
  • Support the President and CEO in establishing and driving the overall financial management of each hospital's performance and accountability agreements with Ontario Health (OH) (Hospital Annual Planning Submission (HAPS) and Hospital Services Accountability Agreement (H-SAA))
  • Serve as the senior source of advice, counsel and support in all areas of the financial management of the operations, fostering ethical, accountable decision making practices and stewardship of resources. Oversee cash, investment and asset management activities.
  • Ensure the business planning processes and financial resources are established and in alignment with the corporate strategic plans
  • Provide critical financial and operational information to the CEO and make actionable recommendations on both strategy and operations
  • Oversee longterm operating and capital budget planning in alignment with each hospital's strategic plans
  • Provide direct support to the Resources committee of the Board
  • Communicate with CEO and Board committees on material financial and accounting matters
  • Evaluate and seek opportunities to continuously improve financial reporting to the hospitals and supporting information systems
  • Ensure the hospital has complied with all regulatory requirements for the hospitals' financial information, reporting, disclosure requirements and internal controls over financial reporting
  • Ensure appropriate financial, risk, accounting and auditing policies and procedures of the hospitals are implemented, developed, maintained, approved and disclosed, as appropriate
  • Ensure the hospitals are in compliance with all legal agreements
  • Ensure compliance with all federal, provincial and local laws and regulations related to hospital finance
  • Accountable for audit of corporate legal accounts
  • Assess each organizations performance against the annual budget and each hospital's longterm strategies
  • Ensure the hospitals maintain an appropriate capital structure to support its annual operating and strategic plans
  • Lead corporate policy and process development specifically as it relates to sound internal controls and budget processes
  • Identify and assess financial and operational risks and implement controls and strategies so that risks are minimized
  • Act as the liaison to the Resources Committee of the Board. Prepare and present financial reports and analysis to the Board of Directors and other stakeholders
  • Establishes and maintains positive relationships between each hospital and external entities including the Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care, Ontario Health, Foundation partners, etc
  • Accountable for external banking relationships, including negotiation of all financing facilities
  • Liaison with external auditors on material financial issues
  • Provide coleadership and direction, in collaboration with VP Clinical, to the SMGH Quality Based Procedure (QBP) strategy
