AHS has an exciting opportunity for a Rural Acute Care Manager at the Wetaskiwin Hospital and Care Centre, with the responsibility for the management of 2 inpatient units.

Additional programmatic, and/or project leadership opportunities may also be available.

In this position you will support a dynamic healthcare team, and a diverse patient population living and working in a rural community with a focus on the AHS Patient First and Our People strategies.

In this role, you will have accountability for the delivery of high quality, accessible, sustainable, patient and family-focused care for the Wetaskiwin Hospital and Care Centre.

Your strong communication and change management skills, as well as your human resource and budget management are essential to being successful in this role.

As part of the Central Zone Acute Care leadership team, you will support and advance quality improvement, patient care, and staff engagement through strong working relationships, and in collaboration with colleagues, staff, community agencies, and regional services.

Your role includes responsibility for recruitment and performance management of human resources in a unionized environment.

Reporting to the Director, Rural Acute Care and in partnership with the other local managers, you will provide leadership through demonstrated consistency of practice, competence as a leader, as well as commitment to the team, and to the overall purpose and vision of the portfolio, and the organization.


Description:

The Acute Manager is responsible to provide management and leadership for the clinical operations of Unit 33 and Unit 35 inpatient units at Wetaskiwin Hospital and Care Centre.

In addition, this position will have responsibility to inform and support the implementation of local, zonal, and/or provincial initiatives within an identified program area.


Key areas of responsibility include:

coordinating staffing, clinical education for staffing, workplace health and safety, disaster management and planning, recruitment, retention and appraisal of staffing, as well as collaborating with managers from all departments and maintaining positive relationships with key local health care stakeholders.

The manager is accountable to ensure the effective deployment of human resources (scheduling, rotations, skill mix etc.), and create a safe, healthy and inclusive workplace where employees and physicians can reach their full potential.

Additionally, the manager will ensure the appropriate allocation of fiscal and capital resources across the area of accountability, and manage and report on the operating budget, including budget forecasting and expenditure monitoring in accordance with established AHS policies and practices.

It is expected that the manager will foster a culture of continuous quality improvement to ensure the ongoing evolution of high-quality healthcare through, for example: just in time learning, coaching, mentoring, orientation, and ongoing staff training and development.

Required Qualifications:

A post-secondary degree in a health profession, health administration, leadership or other comparable degree. Registration with an Alberta Regulated Health Profession, as appropriate. A demonstrated clear pattern of professional development (e.g. continuing education courses).


Additional Required Qualifications:

Progressive experience in a health care environment in an organization of significant size, complexity, and diversity. Uses strategic thinking, taking into account long-term goals assessing options and implications. Demonstrated ability to manage change and create innovative solutions for complex and diverse issues. Ability to manage diverse human, financial and physical resources within a complex environment. Strong organizational skills, client-focused orientation and commitment to providing long-term quality services. Experience in collaborating with physicians and other health care professionals. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, as well as demonstrated effective problem solving.

Demonstrated ability and comfort with decision-making responsibilities, coaching and teaching, and the ability to inspire and build confidence in others.

Ability to foster relationships across the organization to further the effectiveness of both the site(s) managed and programs contained within.
