Position Overview

This position will provide support in human resources' client services with a focus on the administration of labour relations processes, reporting and analysis.


Key Accountabilities:


  • Supports the HR Business Partner and HR Advisor to effectively administer the collective agreement and labour relations practices and processes;
  • Creates and manages databases for tracking and retention of labour relations related documentation including grievances and supporting documentation, disciplinary letters, and memorandums of agreement;
  • Supports the tracking and reporting on key human resource and labour relations performance indicators to support the development of programs and policies and decisionmaking;
  • Conducts research and gathers information to support grievance resolution, mediation/arbitration and collective bargaining;
  • Coordinates various labour relations meetings including labourmanagement meetings, disciplinary meetings and grievance meetings;
  • Prepares disciplinary letters, grievance response letters, and other correspondence as required to support the effective and efficient provision of labour relations services;
  • Ensures the union is provided with timely and accurate reports and billing as required under the collective agreement;
  • Maintains and updates manager and employee guides, information or procedures on various labour relations practices/processes;
  • Provides firstlevel information and services to employees and managers regarding LR inquiries, complaints, policies and practices; escalates as required;
  • Provides support and process improvement to various HR and LR processes including performance management, labour relations, employee engagement, wellness initiatives, recognition, workforce planning and development, investigations;
  • Assists with research, gathering information, statistics and other data, supports analysis and reporting;
  • Provides support in creation of presentations, visuals, and spreadsheets;
  • Performs file audits to ensure required labour relations documentation and data is collected, maintained, and filed;
  • Coordinates, monitors, and responds to surveys and participates in various benchmarking initiatives;
  • Creates and reviews human resources related policies and updates as required;
  • Provides support or coverage for the HR Coordinators as required.

The Eastern Ontario Regional Laboratory Association is a member-based, not-for-profit organization providing the laboratory services for the acute care hospitals of the Champlain Region.

EORLA oversees the operations of 18 licensed hospital-based clinical laboratories that serve the clinical programs of the 16 member hospitals.

Through its mission of providing the best patient outcomes through modern laboratory medicine, innovation and academics, EORLA laboratories provide diagnostic tests for hospital inpatients and registered outpatients.

Comprehensive testing is provided by a team of approximately 900 laboratory professionals, providing services in the disciplines of Anatomic Pathology (including Molecular Oncology), Biochemistry, Hematopathology (including Transfusion Medicine, Tissue Typing and Hematology) and Microbiology.

Basic Requirements

  • Completion of a postsecondary degree or diploma in Human Resources Management or Industrial Relations;
  • Minimum of three years of previous experience in human resources;
  • Sound knowledge of labour relations practices, policies, procedures, and processes;
  • Knowledge and experience with collective agreements and relevant governing legislation, policies, procedures, and processes (human rights, labour, privacy, employment);
  • Demonstrated organizational skills with the ability to work effectively in a small team environment and autonomously;
  • Experienced with managing tight deadlines and multiple priorities;
  • Ability to exercise sound judgement, tact, and a high degree of confidentiality;
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite and Human Resources Information Systems (HRIS);
  • Sound problem solving and conflict resolution skills;
  • High degree of attention to detail and accuracy;
  • Must have a valid driver's license and vehicle as some travel between laboratory sites is required.
