Position Overview:
Reporting to Supervisor, Large Meters & Regulator Stations, you will be responsible for installation, inspection, maintenance and repair of large meter sets and regulator stations


Responsibilities:


  • Performs all duties of Gas Meter and Regulator Technician
  • Coordinate staff on all aspects of large gas meter and regulator installations, inspections, maintenance, and repairs to ensure compliance with Kitchener Utilities standards and all applicable legislations.
  • Gas leak repair on all above ground meter sets and regulator stations
  • Operate, maintain, repair and replace gas valves, meters, regulators, and relief valves on meter sets and at regulator stations.
  • Keep legible accurate handwritten/electronic records including daily work logs and installation records, which also may include computerized work management system and meter inventory system (Clevest)
  • Assist crews in construction/reconstruction and maintenance work providing meter support to Engineering Staff and Construction & Maintenance Staff
  • Work safely around customer property, construction sites, backhoes, excavators, and directional drills etc.
  • Clean and prepare worksites to eliminate possible hazards
  • Monitor, maintain and inspect tools and equipment such as Crystal manometer, Luboseal changer, GMI, manometer, hipressure grease gun, gas valve keys, laptop, cell phone.
  • Inspect customer installations in accordance with current regulations
  • Serves as the Kitchener Utilities representative on the job in the absence of supervisor.
  • Assume oncall responsibilities on a rotational basis.
  • Comply with all requirements of Highway Traffic Act and the Occupational Health and Safety Act and ensure they are adhered to by staff (including but not limited to tailboard talks, hazard identification etc.)
  • Assist supervisor(s) in providing on the job practical training as well as leadership and mentoring.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Requirements:


  • Minimum Grade 12 diploma or equivalent.
  • Minimum of 3 years' experience in all facets of gas meter and regulator installation and maintenance, including performing relights, load checks and inspections of all natural gas appliances and piping as per regulations.
  • Gas Technician 1 license, or Gas Technician 2 license with the ability to obtain Gas Technician 1 License within two years of start date.
  • GPI certificate, or the ability to obtain within two years of start date.
  • Valid MTO class G driver's license and in good standing, must provide Drivers Abstract at your own expense as a condition of employment.
  • Thorough working knowledge of natural gas meters, regulators, reliefs, and appliances
  • Ability to read and interpret all applicable codes, including CSA Z662 and B149, as well as manufacturer's instructions for proper installation.
  • Physically fit and capable of performing manual labour.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills with a strong customer service focus
  • Proven collaboration skills to work effectively as a team member.
  • Provide a satisfactory Police Reference Check (Criminal Record Check) at your own expense as a condition of employment.
  • Participate in oncall on rotational basis and be available to respond to the site or Kitchener Operations Facility within 30 minutes for emergency purposes.
  • Must be reliable with a good attitude and employment record.
