Function summary
This Postdoctoral Fellowship will be closely tied to a research project by the Candrive team. The Candrive team is an international, multidisciplinary team specializing in research on older drivers' safety. The team consists of more than 20 investigators in research/hospital institutions across Canada (University of Toronto/ Baycrest Health Sciences, University of Ottawa/Bruyère Research Institute, Lakehead University/St. Joseph's Care Group, etc.).

We successfully conducted a large prospective cohort study of older drivers (n=928), followed for seven years across seven sites in four provinces, and a parallel study in Australia and New Zealand.

This cohort, the first of its kind, was created to develop a risk stratification tool (RST) that will aid healthcare providers in identifying older adults who are at potential risk for unsafe driving.

The Postdoctoral Fellow will be in charge of implementing and validating the Candrive RST with family physicians in an academic clinic.

This opportunity allows the Postdoctoral Fellow to receive mentorship from recognized scholars and clinicians in older adult's driving assessment (Dr. Shawn Marshall, Dr. Michel Bedard, Dr. Frank Knoefel, Dr. Jenny Howcroft).


Main duties and responsibilities:

  • Lead both the implementation and validation components of the study
  • For the implementation component of the study, build relationships with family physicians and tailor the implementation of the Candrive RST to their clinic's workflow
  • For the validation component of the study, recruit patients and conduct comprehensive tests on cognition, driving behaviors
  • Lead data collection (survey, interview, focus group) with physicians and patients
  • Lead analysis and writing, resulting in publishable manuscript(s)
  • Provide guidance to student research assistants.

Required Qualifications and Competencies:
PhD in a relevant field (e.g., rehabilitation sciences, occupational therapy, psychology, human factors, health services and policy)

  • Experience with mixed methods research strongly preferred
  • Experience with implementation science and knowledge translation preferred
  • Experience conducting driving rehabilitation studies, preferably with older adult
