Manager, Internal Communications


Reporting to the Managing Director, Corporate Communications, you will be responsible for providing internal communications counsel on strategic priorities, issues management, and communications planning for business unit clients.

You will also lead a team of high performing Advisors to uphold the municipality's reputation through the effective delivery of internal communications.


As the Internal Communications Manager, you are an experienced collaborator who is skilled at bringing people together across the organization.

You are a trusted leader who provides evidence-based advice to senior leaders, managers, and employees on how to communicate often complex information to internal audiences through a variety of communications channels and tools.

With a commitment to performance excellence, you are also continuously exploring new internal communications approaches that will enhance our internal communications programs and services and support exceptional customer service to business unit clients.


DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provide leadership for internal communications initiatives that help improve the effectiveness of all communications throughout the organization
  • Establish and maintain strategic partnerships with internal clients to develop communications tools that support their efforts to be more effective communicators
  • Develop partnerships with Business Units to enhance HRM's reputation by advancing brand values through all internal communications activities
  • Ensure that corporate information produced through internal communications services is relevant, integrated and accessible throughout the organization
  • Support development of the annual business plan for Corporate Communications and align necessary resources to ensure appropriate allocation, structures, relationships and reporting for priorities and excellence in service delivery
  • Ensure the services are provided in the most efficient and effective way through analyzing alternative service delivery methods and trends analysis
  • Remain knowledgeable of new concepts and strategies in the area of internal communications, including research and survey methodology

QUALIFICATIONS

Education and Experience:


  • University degree with a concentration in communications/public relations/marketing, and a minimum of five (5) years of progressive responsibility in providing communications services including three (3) years in a management role with direct responsibility over these services and all related budget matters
  • Strong business acumen including broad experience in the delivery of integrated internal communications plans, products, services and solutions in a complex, multidepartmental business environment
  • Demonstrated ability to draw on a broad spectrum of experience in developing, managing and delivering internal communications solutions including:
  • senior project management of internal communications strategies and initiatives
- leading a diverse team of communications and creative personnel
- leveraging traditional and social media engagement strategies into internal communications objectives
- incorporating relevant trends and approaches to research and survey methodology into internal communications planning


Technical / Job Specific Knowledge and Abilities:

  • Project management-applied knowledge in various project planning, analytical and performance measures methods
  • Knowledge of municipal administration culture, policies and procedures, trends and developments
  • Proficiency in the use of various software tools and platforms (SAP, SharePoint, Adobe, Microsoft Office)
  • Demonstrated experience with performance measurement
  • Excellent organizational skills
  • Demonstrated ability to negotiate, mediate and resolve conflicts, build and maintain trust among team, internal clients and external audiences
  • Knowledge of the processes involved in the development of policies and standard operating procedures
  • Proven team leader, facilitator, and motivator
  • Demonstrated ability to keep administrative and project budgets on track, and to make strategic recommendations on how budgets can be adapted to meet emerging service needs

Work Status:
Permanent, full time


Hours of Work:
Monday through Friday, 8:30 am to 4:30 pm for 35 hours per week

Salary:
Non-union, level NU 09, $94,540 - $129,990 annually (salary to be commensurate with experience)

Work Location:
Duke Tower, 5251 Duke St., Halifax, Nova Scotia
