Position Summary
The Fire Prevention Officer maintains responsibility for providing leadership and coordination of all aspects of fire and life safety across the respective sites of UHN


The principal responsibilities include:

  • Daily, weekly, monthly, bimonthly, quarterly and semiannual duties as per the Ontario Fire Code (OFC).
  • Performing operational/strategic planning and implementation responsibilities
  • Performing report and documentation responsibilities
  • Performing crossfunctional and/or other duties consistent with the job classification, as assigned by the Hospital management representatives and/or as required.

Qualifications

  • At minimum, completion of a 2 year college program in Fire Protection Technology, Fire and Emergency Services, Fire Protection/Emergency Services and 12 years of practical and related experience
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, capable of maintaining multiple communication channels.
  • Ability to read and interpret blue prints.
  • Ability to implement sustainable/beneficial change.
  • Ability to coordinate many activities concurrently and prioritize effectively.
  • Demonstrate and maintain a working knowledge of Hospital accreditation requirements, Industry standards and codes (Fire & Building Codes), Hospital policies and procedures, Workplace Hazardous Material Information Systems and Occupational Health & Safety Act.
  • Computer literate.
  • Ability to perform duties in a professional and courteous manner and produce high quality work while meeting deadlines in accordance to UHN standards.
  • Exercise initiative and good judgment with ability to multitask.
  • Compliance with confidentiality requirements.
  • Effective organizational, interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Knowledge of applicable legislative, UHN and/or departmental policies.
  • Client service oriented, with the ability to effectively work with diversity and appreciate that people with different opinions, backgrounds and characteristics bring richness to the challenge or situation at hand.
