    An exciting opportunity has arisen for the role of Intermediate/Senior Fire Engineer to join our Tunnels Practice (Fire Life Safety Team) based in our Toronto office. Reporting to local engineers, you will be involved with the delivery of a range of projects within the Infrastructure and Buildings Division of Mott MacDonald in Canada and the United States, as well as supporting other parts of the international business worldwide.

    As an Intermediate/Senior Engineer working as an integral part of the infrastructure group, your duties will include but not be limited to:

  • Mott MacDonalds Tunnels Practice Fire Life Safety focuses on the fire safety of tunnels and infrastructures. However, there will be a supporting role in assisting in the fire safety design of buildings.
  • Projects are principally based in Toronto Canada and a detailed understanding of local regulations and design guidance such as OBC, and OFC is desirable.
  • Able to work with, and have an appreciation of the integration of, other construction professionals' requirements for the project.
  • Working in collaboration with the wider project teams
  • Attending design team meetings, design workshops, client meetings, and site meetings.
  • Travel to clients or projects meetings, according to project demands., including international travel.
  • Knowledge of fire/smoke modeling tools would be considered an asset.
  • Support with business development initiatives.
  • The ideal candidate will have the ambition to take on additional roles in developing the business in Canada and North America.

    Candidate Specification

    The ideal candidate will have experience working within our primary markets along with having the following candidate specifications (preferred candidates will possess the following):

  • Bachelor's Degree in a relevant degree from an accredited university (having a master's degree would be considered an asset);
  • 5 to 10 years of progressively responsible experience as a Fire Engineer in an engineering consultancy environment;
  • A Professional Engineer (P. Eng.), registered in Ontario, Canada;
  • Excellent verbal, written, and communication skills;
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills;
  • Experience with working with fire engineering codes of practice in Toronto Canada;
  • Working knowledge of international codes such as NFPA 130 and 502;
  • Excellent team player;
  • Ability and commitment to effectively deliver to demanding timescales and have good organizational and planning skills.
