Job Overview

The Animation specialist is guided by our first value - we create to amaze As part of our Miniature Makers team, you'll be taking part in conceptualization, design, and fabrication of our Animated World components.

Reporting to the Senior Animation specialists, the Animation Specialists will undertake a variety of miniature design challenges in the mechanical, electrical, and programing disciplines.

leveraging a combination of electronics, electromechanical/maker skills, this role will be focused on fulfilling our goal of creating a meaningful and exciting journey through Canada in miniature.

Working through research and development challenges, documenting and reporting on findings will help to increase personal and company knowledge. This role will include developing operational guidelines for specific animations and participating in repair/maintenance tasks as well. We like to learn and share our knowledge; one BIG part of our job is making sure we engage our guests at our Miniature Mission Control and answer any questions they might have


What you'll be doing;

  • The Animation Specialist reports to and performs assigned tasks under the direction of Senior animation Creation Specialists / Senior animation specialists.
  • Interacting and engaging with guests at Miniature Mission Control who are interested in technical operations and explaining behind the scenes information
  • Create unique, fascinating, and reliable miniature animations that invoke a sense of wonder and amazement
  • Install and maintain infrastructure to support technical elements, Electromechanical Animations, related Control equipment and other special effects.
  • Install the internal wiring and interfaces using best practices for maintenance, repair, and future modifications.
  • Interface with the build team in approved wiring practices prior to installation for the structures, cityscapes, and other animated elements of the miniature world.
  • Ensure reliable daily operation of the Animated World.
  • Support Animated World Operators to monitor, diagnose and repair major Animated World components to correct adverse incidents and reduce future downtime.
  • Technical knowledge and understanding of Little Canada Animated World Components.
  • Identifying incidents and acting promptly based on predetermined protocols and guidelines.
  • Extended maintenance and cleaning of Animated World components
  • Record and report Animated World incidents for documentation and learning.
  • Monitor Animated World components and report technical feedback to Animations specialists for research and development purposes.
  • Emergency troubleshooting and repair of Animated World Components.
  • Establish and maintain strong cooperation with the Build team and across the company
  • Embrace the Little Canada Health and Safety Program.

Key Skills

  • Demonstrated experience with Computer Hardware and software (cross platform), microcontrollers i.e. Arduino, Raspberry Pi, related sensors and hardware.
  • Proven track record of Programming C++ and other Coding languages using multiple operating systems
  • Demonstrated proficiency in CAD software such as Solidworks/Fusion 360, as well as Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Skilled in the use of Hand Tools, Power Tools and precise measuring instruments
  • Experienced in the installation and maintenance of electromechanical equipment, including AC and DC motors and related controls, stepper motors, servos, lead screws, bearings and mechanical linkages.
  • Highly developed soldering skills with SMD (Surface Mount Device) components and fine conductors.
  • Keen visual acuity and fine motor skills are essential.
  • Proven experience and proficiency in wiring installation and management.
  • Proven experience in schematic, documentation interpretation
