JOB DESCRIPTION_


Jays Care Foundation, the charitable arm of the Toronto Blue Jays, uses baseball as a tool to teach life-skills and create lasting social change for over 35,000 children and youth across Canada.

Jays Care proudly works in all ten provinces and two territories running community programs to level the playing field for Canadian kids facing barriers and has invested over $10 million through Field of Dreams to support the building or refurbishment of more than 100 diamonds and recreation spaces.


Jays Care programs were ambitiously adapted to support Canadian children and families who have been disproportionately impacted by the social effects of COVID-19.

BGC BRANTFORD was successful is securing a grant from the Jays Care Foundation to support summer programming in our four summer programs.

Jays Care Summer Program Leader

The Club provides four summer camp programs

a) Kindergarten Camp Cicadas for children ages 4 & 5 years (2 locations)

b) Camp Kummonanplay for children ages years of age

c) Summer Leadership Development for youth ages years of age

The Jays Bounce Back Through Camp Program is designed to achieve the following outcomes:
i) Provide children with a dynamic in-person summer camp experience.

ii) Promote social connectedness among children.

iii) Increase children's confidence and self-efficacy.

iv) Provide children with caring and reliable adult role models.


HOURS:
Monday through Friday - as per working schedule hours per week

  • Due to the nature of the Club's business, staff cannot always be confined rigidly to a definite schedule of hours 'flex' time WILL be required._

TRAINING:


Education:

Current academic engagement at the Secondary School level and/or Post-Secondary School in Recreation and Leisure/Child & Youth Worker/Teaching or related discipline at college or university level.


Qualifications:
Current First Aid/CPR

Valid Drivers License and access to reliable vehicle

Clean Driving Abstract


Experience:

Experience working with children 4 & 5 years of age and 5-12 years of age

Experience working with youth years of age.

Experience in mentoring and providing direction to employees/volunteers.

Experience in program development, execution and evaluation of baseball skill development and/or similar relevant experience/sport.

Experience in creating and executing virtual programming.

Experience in the implementation of programs under COVID Infection Control Policies, Procedures & Best Practices.

Experience in the collection and tabulating of data.

Experience in measuring and reporting on desired outcomes and related impact.

Strong and effective time management and organizational/administrative skills


INITIATIVE

Complexity of Duties:

  • Operate program in compliance with legislative requirements and the guidelines of the Club's summer day camp philosophy, operational standards and desired outcomes.
  • Create and operate Jays Care program (inperson & virtual) in compliance with Jay Care guidelines and expectations.
  • Provide an environment and program supplies that are safe and free for any hazards to children.
  • Update self and other staff of children's allergies and other special health conditions
Initiative

  • Adhere to best practices for maintaining health records and administering medication (if applicable)
  • Perform administrative tasks relating to Jays Care program requirements and expectations.
  • Ensure that program areas and their equipment are maintained in a state that reflects the high standards of the organization.
  • Ensure all equipment maintains a level of safety and concerns are reported to Director of Programs & Services.
  • Submit requests for program supplies and/or equipment.

RESPONSIBILITY
Errors

  • Use the program framework to design program content that is specific to creating goals for children that support selfregulation, identity, social inclusion, health and wellbeing, language & thinking skills and physical literacy.
  • Ensure program provides opportunities for active/quiet, indoor/outdoor, virtual and individual and group activities.
  • Evaluate programs (soliciting feedback from supervisor, coleaders, children and families) and make recommendations to modify/enhance programming and improve the effectiveness of meeting developmental, social and cultural needs of children and youth.
  • Observe and assess children & youth's progress and behaviour to ensure programs meet identified individual and group needs
  • Be continuously aware of children's allergies and other special nutritional and/or health conditions.
