About the Role

The Regional District of Nanaimo is seeking a Permanent Full-Time Operator 3 with Wastewater Services at the French Creek Pollution Control Centre.

Reporting to the Chief Operator, the successful applicant will contribute to the effective operation of Wastewater Services through the safe maintenance and operation of the RDN Wastewater treatment plants and collection facilities.

Qualifications

Qualifications include, a post-secondary diploma in Water & Wastewater Technology, supplemented with an Environmental Operators Certification Program Class 3 Certificate in Wastewater Treatment, which includes four (4) years of acceptable operating experience at a Class II or higher facility, and two (2) years of direct responsible charge operation at a Class II or higher facility, or an equivalent combination of training and experience.

Applicants with level 1 or 2 EOCP certification may be considered

Applicants must also possess a valid Class 5 BC Drivers License, Transportation of Dangerous Goods and WSBC approved OFA Level 1 First Aid course.

In addition, a working knowledge of WHMIS regulations and procedures and safe work procedures; thorough knowledge of equipment, materials and methods; knowledge of electrical, plumbing, pipe fitting, welding, instrumentation, pump station maintenance and computer skills; and knowledge of overhead crane operation and hoisting/rigging practices are required.

Position Details
This is a permanent full-time (40 Hours per week) Union Position.

The Operator rate of pay is $37.42 to $39.39 per hour, Note that compensation is dependent on the level of Wastewater Treatment certification within the Environmental Operator's Certification Program (EOCP).

The position offers an attractive benefits package as provided within the collective agreement between the Regional District of Nanaimo and the Canadian Union of Public Employees, Local 401.

This position is currently undergoing a job evaluation (JE) within the RDN.

Education/Experience

Postsecondary diploma in Water & Wastewater Technology
Environmental Operators Certification Program Class 3 Certificate in Wastewater Treatment
Four (4) years of operating experience
Two (2) years of direct responsible charge operation
