JOB SUMMARY UNDER GENERAL SUPERVISION OF THE DEAN OF ARTS AND GENERAL EDUCATION, TO ASSIST FACULTY IN THE PREPARATION, PRESENTATION AND SUPERVISION OF STUDENT WORK IN THE VISUAL ARTS DEPARTMENT'S PRINTMAKING, PAINTING, AND DRAWING STUDIOS.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Maintain the safe operation of all machinery, tools, and equipment in the printmaking, drawing, and painting studios
  • Oversee the repair, service, or replacement of equipment as needed
  • Implement and maintain health and safety procedures in the printmaking, drawing, and painting studios, including safe handling, storage, and disposal of chemicals
  • Assist teachers with preparation of course materials in printmaking, drawing, and painting
  • Provide technical support to students and faculty, including setup and operation of tools and equipment as needed
  • Supervise and assist students with class projects and guide them in the safe handling of materials, methods, and techniques
  • Schedule and supervise open studio sessions in printmaking
  • Oversee the purchase, acquisition, storage and distribution of course materials and supplies in printmaking, painting, drawing, photography, and design
  • Maintain inventory of studio equipment and materials, and order as required
  • Update VEGA product inventory on a regular basis
  • Research and assist in the implementation of new methods and sustainable practices as needed
  • Coordinate with other branches of the college, including Health & Safety, FMS, Purchasing, and Shipping as needed
  • Attend departmental assembly meetings as needed
  • Supervise student employees as needed
  • Assist with setup and take down of the annual Graduation Exhibition
  • Participate in the appropriate selection and preparation of materials, tools and equipment
  • Set up and establish procedures for the proper use of tools, equipment and materials
  • Assist students with their regular work and coach them in the proper understanding of techniques
  • Perform any other related tasks as may be assigned

QUALIFICATIONS:


Education

College diploma (DEC) in an appropriate specialty (Fine Arts) or a diploma or an attestation of studies which is recognized as equivalent by the competent authority.


Specific Requirements:


  • Prior working experience in a teaching/learning environment preferred
  • Knowledge of relief, intaglio and silkscreen printing techniques
  • Knowledge of photographic printmaking methods
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Autonomous, able to work with mínimal supervision
  • Previous related experience is an asset
  • Intermediate English, oral and written
  • Conversational French (basic)

Testing may be required to demonstrate knowledge of:

  • French (Basic oral)
  • English (Intermediate oral and written)
