Description

The Safety Manager position will be part of an exclusive, high-profile project for a major Vancouver Hospital reporting directly to the VP, Major Projects of Trilogy Concrete Ltd.

and will work to support Site Superintendents through a team of Site CSO personnel for this build.


_The project is expected to run for a minimum timeline of 24 months with the potential for extension based on the continuation and demands of the project.

The Safety Manager oversees the Health and Safety Initiatives for the project site including implementation, maintenance, training, and improvement of the Health and Safety Program, which outlines the policies and procedures required to maintain a safe workplace and ensure construction projects are completed in a safe manner.


This role is responsible for overseeing, and participating when applicable, in Health and Safety activities such as Joint Health and Safety Committee meetings and initiatives, performing job site audits to identify safety risks, and ensuring proper handling of incidents and accidents.

The position is also responsible for communicating and managing the relationship with WorkSafeBC. The Safety Manager will regularly evaluate the Health and Safety Program to ensure ongoing compliance with requirements.


This role is accountable for:

  • Creating, monitoring and managing a safe and healthy workplace for all personnel
  • Continued implementation and maintenance of the Health and Safety Program
  • Ensuring compliance with WorkSafeBC and business safety requirements
Safety Manager


Responsibilities:


The Safety Manager is responsible to:

  • Support a valid Health and Safety Program including maintaining COR certification to protect the reputation and standing of the company
Implement processes to effectively control critical safety risks

  • Develop yearly forecast related to COR and Health and Safety programming with KPI's
  • Participate in and coordinate activities required of the Joint Health and Safety Committee
  • Maintain safety and training related paperwork and certifications as required under the Health and Safety Program
  • Provide the Site CSO with the support and training necessary to carry out their health and safety responsibilities
  • Coach, mentor, develop, and manage the onSite CSO team
  • Provide personnel with all necessary information, instruction, training, and supervision to protect their health and safety
  • Provide input as part of the leadership team to shape the business Health and Safety strategy
  • Implement improvements with consideration given to strategic business objectives and company and industry trends derived from data, conversations, and observations
  • Perform other duties as assigned
Site Safety

  • Preview project sites before work begins to determine safety related risks
  • Develop a preconstruction report as per COR requirements
  • Work with Project Managers, Site Superintendents and field workers (primarily through CSO onsite team members) to develop and implement solutions to safety related issues on project sites
  • Ensure that health and safety problems reported by workers are recorded, evaluated and resolved
  • Stay active on project site to assess ongoing work conditions to ensure compliance with occupational health and safety requirements and orders
  • Establish and manage the relationship with other affiliate safety professionals
Incidents and Accidents

  • Ensure investigations and reporting is occurring as required by WorkSafeBC and the Health and Safety Program
  • Manage KPI's and issues related to H&S
  • Maintain clear communication and manage relationship with WorkSafeBC reporting dashboards
  • Communicate with Human Resources on WCB claims and RTW plans and site inspections
  • Communicate with the Safety Manager on all workplace incidents, accidents and serious violations
Safety Manager Qualifications and Skills

  • Bachelor's degree or diploma in a relevant field such as Construction Safety Management or Occupational Health and Safety
  • At least 3 years of relevant experience
  • At least 2 years of relevant supervisory experience
  • Proficiency in MS suite of tools including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Project, and OneDrive
  • Knowledge on the construction and erection of concrete formwork is an asset
  • Thorough understanding of current WorkSafeBC legislation and OH&S regulations
  • Thorough understanding of PPE and safety equipment use and maintaince
  • Commitment to the safety of yourself and the team
  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills in English
  • Effective leadership and interpersonal skills
  • Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills
  • Critical thinking and sound judgement in all situations
  • Training background and asset
  • Resilience and a positive attitude when under pressure
