The YMCA Language Assessment and Referral Centre is a part of YMCA Employment and Community Programs which functions as the first step of the English and French language training pathway for immigrants to Canada.

All immigrants wishing to access language classes funded by Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) and the Ministry of Labour, Immigration, Training and Skills Development (MLITSD) need to undergo an assessment at the language assessment Centre.


The Outreach and Community Relations Coordinator acts as a dynamic member of the leadership team who provides direction to the Language Assessment and Referral Centre's community-bridging and partnership-building strategy, assumes responsibility for all outreach and promotion initiatives of the program, and acts as the program's ambassador for community relations and engagement.

This position is a key supporting role to the Manager Language Assessment and Referral Centre (CLARS).


In this role, you will:


  • Develop, implement and evaluate an annual outreach and communications plan consistent with the policies and standards of the YMCA of Greater Toronto with both Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) and Ministry of Labour, Immigration, Training and Skills Development (MLITSD) collaborate with Manager/Director and Communications team to develop promotional materials.
  • Build and manage an annual outreach and promotion budget, ensuring achievement of outcomes.
  • Conduct outreach visits, attend events, meetings, open houses, seminars, forums, panels, conferences, relevant fairs, represent the program at functions, etc.
  • Coordinate, facilitate and take a leadership role in the Community Partnership Committee meetings and develop positive and mutually rewarding relationships with partners and agencies in the community.
  • Represent the Language Assessment and Referral Centre, Immigrant Services, and the YMCA of Greater Toronto as a whole by providing informative and inspiring tours and developing and facilitating highquality presentations on the background of the program, the department, and the Association as well as the present and future initiatives to funders, community partners and stakeholders, volunteers, donors and other YMCA programs.
  • Connect program with relevant guest speakers and stakeholders in the community and provide advice to Manager, Director, and team leaders on potential areas of collaboration and partnership.
  • Assist Manager with administrative duties, including report writing, preparing correspondence, compiling and analyzing statistics, etc.
  • Manage and produce content for YMCA website, including program updates, newcomer stories, FAQs, etc., and content for social media channels to engage with target audience. Develop newcomers' success stories through interviews for web, print and media use.
  • Manage social media and webinars development and delivery. Ensure online content is up to date and relevant and performs frequently quality control of content.
  • In collaboration with Communications Department, respond to enquiries.
  • Work closely with Manager, Director, Team Leaders to manage frontline staff community outreach and engagement plans.
  • Participate in Local Immigration Partnership Council representing the program building positive and mutually rewarding relationships with partners and agencies in the community.
  • Actively and frequently seeks out community partnershipbuilding opportunities in line with the funder's and the YMCA's vision.
  • Organize and facilitate focus groups with clients and community stakeholders to obtain feedback on potential areas of program enhancement and to evaluate effectiveness of any specific methods requested by the funder.
  • Work closely with and provides direct support to Manager to achieve quality, fiscal, and program targets.
  • Represent the Manager/Director if required.
  • Provide support to Manager and Team Leaders with recruiting staff within the team.
  • Assist with training and supervision of volunteers.
  • Ensure that communication and information is distributed to staff and volunteers in a timely and effective manner.
  • Prepare and analyze monthly and yearly reports for Manager, Director, General Manager, and funders related to the activities undertaken and outcomes achieved; assist Manager with preparation of various statistical, program or clientrelated reports.
  • Participate as a member of proposalwriting team for the program.
