Position Summary


Reporting to the Fleet Shop Manager, the Shop Foreman with Canada Cartage will be responsible for providing close management of all Fleets.

You will manage all breakdowns, both daytime and pick up on overnight open calls. Ensure moved to completion in timely & cost-effective manner.


Report into Operations on ETC or delays; Provide support to Fleet Manager and be able to stand in for his absence.

What you will do

  • Manage availability, by managing triage & repair of all Fleets. Communicate repair progress & ETC to Operations, twice daily,
  • Get updates on entire fleet, external repairs & parts deliver,
  • Booking units into shop planner and following repairs through the repair process,
  • Creates and completes POs and ROs for outside vendors,
  • Chase up all external repair progress.
  • Closing internal work orders,
  • Schedule units into shop and create repair orders,
  • Manage breakdowns and follow until unit returned into service. Check into night breakdowns,
  • Pick up any not resolved and arrange to be repaired/returned into service quickly,
  • Triage faults and arrange fastest & most economic repair options,
  • Continually improve maintenance operations to improve shop throughput, efficiency, cost control & quality,
  • Guide & manage complex repair decisions,

What You'll Bring

  • Analytical, selfmotivated problem solver with ability to "think outside the box" and "can do" approach,
  • Able to organize and prioritize demands, handle complex tasks, set and meet deadlines and followthrough within a fastpaced environment with multiple and competing demands,
  • 5 years of experience as a licensed heavy duty mechanic / technician,
  • Highschool education,
  • 3 years of supervisory experience,
  • Physically able to meet the demands of the job,
  • High computer proficiency,
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong interpersonal and leadership skills
  • Ability to multitask in a fastpaced environment
  • Good attention to detail
  • Ability to interact in a professional manner with customers and colleagues.
  • Must have completed high school; postsecondary education is an asset.
