In partnership with the Manager, Varsity and Athletic Operations, Manager, Recreation, Health and Performance, and Head Athletic Therapist, the Varsity Coordinator is responsible for the coordination and execution of the Conestoga College Varsity Athletics program.
The incumbent's responsibilities include overseeing and coordinating the general operations of Varsity sports with a focus on the student-athlete experience, fulfilling OCAA/CCAA membership responsibilities, and other duties as required.
Responsibilities:
- Developing, organizing, and communicating all home practice/competition logistics, including dates, times, onsite and offsite locations, officials/referees, and setup requirements
- Developing, organizing, and communicating away competition logistics, including meal allowances
- Communicating with external facilities and transportation vendors
- Assisting in the scheduling of Athletic Therapists for competitions and practices
- Collaborating with the Athletic Therapists to ensure that studentathletes comply with OCAA, CCAA, and CCES regulations regarding the training and potential testing for performanceenhancing drugs
- Liaising with community groups for varsity game day assistance and operation
- Assisting with the planning, promotion, and execution of studentathlete orientations and information workshops to ensure that compliance and condor athlete expectations are communicated and understood
- Supporting coaches in the recruitment of athletes by liaising with Program Coordinators or Registrar's Office, providing tours, etc.
- Supporting the planning and facilitation of the Annual Athletics Award Banquet
- Investigate, organize, and deliver Condors Esports apparel for team personnel, coaches, and competitive athletes
- Organize the transportation and accommodation needs for esports competitive play
- Collaborate with esports administrators on the development of esportsspecific studentathlete handbooks and coaches
- Facilitate academic progress reports for incoming esports athletes
- Guide esports coaches with professional development opportunities, including safe sport, EDI initiatives, and esportsspecific learning
- Continual development of the game day experience for esports athletes, this may include watch parties, organizing athlete meals, organizing athlete student supports, etc.
- Adhering to and enforcing all OCAA policies and procedures
- Completing OCAA compliance and administrative tasks
- Organizing and completing studentathlete declaration lists
- Coordinating and submission of team rosters with accurate information
- Preparing and supporting the annual scholarship recipient documentation
- Organizing and executing regional, provincial, or national hosting duties for appropriate Varsity sports, as outlined in the Varsity Athletics annual plan
- Attending any regular (AGM or Director's Meeting) or special meetings
- Supporting the recruiting, hiring, and training of coaches and varsity student staff
- Developing staff schedules based on operational needs
- Supporting and maintaining of the coach's manual
- Establishing and maintaining positive relationships with college departments to contribute to the efficient operation of Varsity Athletics and support of studentathletes
Qualifications:
- Twoyear Diploma in Recreation and Leisure, Sport Management, Sports Administration, Business, or related field of study
- Two years of experience advising, delegating, leading, motivating, supervising, and coaching staff or volunteers in a recreational facility or sports setting
- Completion of National Coaching Certificate Program(s) and CPR/First Aid is considered an asset
- Experience working with diverse groups (as defined in the Human Rights Charter)
- Experience working with college students and practical knowledge of the operations of a college, its various clients, and the postsecondary environment
- Advanced problemsolving, conflict resolution, and analytical skills
- Demonstrated evidencebased problemsolving abilities
- Safe Sport knowledge and experience implementing Safe Sport programs
