    RESPONSIBILITY/AUTHORITY

    Position Title: Clinical Registered Dietitian

    Function: This position works closely with the nursing and other

    allied health professionals to provide clinical nutrition

    support to the residents of Golden Links Lodge

    Personal Care Home.

    Reports to Director of Care

    Major functions / accountabilities:

  • Clinical Assessment, development, and implementation of nutrition care plans for residents.
  • Provide education relating to clinical nutrition topics for residents/families and staff.
  • Foodservice support and liaison
  • Development and implementation of policies, procedures and QI tools related to clinical nutrition services.
  • Integration of research findings for clinical practice.
  • Will work in conjunction with Management to provide supervision, training, and ensure procedures and policies are being followed by all food services staff.
  • Clinical Assessment and development and implementation of nutrition care plans for residents.
    Complete clinical nutrition assessments on all residents on admission, annually and as required and develop an overall nutrition care plan upon admission, annually, and as required.
    Prescribe meals in consult with the SLP, nourishments, and supplements for the residents to meet their identified nutritional and therapeutic needs.
    Chart the nutrition care plans and interventions and ensures this is updated quarterly.
    Participates in Resident's Care Conferences and quarterly reviews as schedule/caseload allows, or ensures pertinent information is available.
  • Initiate and update resident Kardex's for both food services, and Nursing departments
    Responsible to keep Diet Manual current.
    Initiate related activities such as 24-hour food records.
  • Education and in servicing
    Educate and train staff/residents/families in nutrition as it relates to the care of residents and staff.
  • Participate in the feeding and swallowing and airway management at the annual education fair for Staff
  • Participate in the feeding and swallowing and airway management portion of the general orientation
    Provide nutrition education in the form of one-on-one counseling for residents related to their therapeutic diet.
  • Foodservice support and liaison
    Provide direction and review of the department's annual cycle menu to ensure nutritional adequacy.
    Development and maintenance of nutritional reference material to assist the Foodservice department in carrying out their duties accurately.
  • Development and implementation of policies and procedures and QI tools related to clinical nutrition services.
    Develop and maintain QI tools in clinical nutrition reflecting risk management and quality/best practice standards.
    Develop and maintain clinical nutrition policies and procedures that support department objectives, quality initiatives and best practices in the field.
  • Develop and complete a variety of audits for the food services program to meet standards requirements.
  • Prepare quarterly reports to the DOC, based on audit results as per Manitoba Health Standards.
  • Accountability limitations (applicable to all the above)

    Decisions regarding changes related to processes/procedures in clinical nutrition are made in conjunction with other departments and/or direct report depending on area(s) of impact.
