Job description
As an Associate Medical Writer
you will serve as a quality-control anchor for our scientific content. Your primary duties will support senior writers and strategists in the translation of complex clinical data and brand strategy into clear, compelling copy for both healthcare professionals and patients:
·
Editorial revisions
– implementing internal and prescriptive client and PRC/MLR feedback, tracking versions, and ensuring every change preserves scientific accuracy and brand strategy
·
Fact-checking & annotation
– verifying claims against primary literature and product monographs, then updating copy so every statement is evidence-based
·
Adapting existing copy
– transforming global materials or previously approved content into new formats (e.g., emails, banners, social posts) while maintaining strategic intent and compliance
You will also handle smaller writing projects under more senior guidance as you sharpen your skills and expertise in the fundamentals of Medical Writing.
CORE RESPONSIBILITIES
· Implement prescriptive internal, client, and PRC/MLR feedback while maintaining medical accuracy and strategic nuance
· Fact-check all scientific claims and prepare complete reference packs
· Manage submission uploads and medical annotations for PRC/MRL review (e.g., in Veeva Vault)
· Adapt existing approved copy into new channels and formats (e.g., turn website content into a series of emails, social posts, etc.)
· Draft smaller original assets with senior oversight
· Attend internal and select client meetings in a support role
· Proofread content according to style guides, grammar, and brand-voice
· Occasional research into primary literature and product monographs for data and insights that align to strategic objectives
· Begin developing an up-to-date understanding of the highly regulated pharma marketing space, especially with regards to PAAB and ASC guidance, and advise internal team members and clients accordingly throughout content creation and revision
• Collaborate on internal and client discussions about clinical data: advising on medical accuracy, identifying regulatory guardrails, and contributing to content strategy
• Be a stickler for quality – overseeing campaign or strategic vision for medical content throughout production
REQUIRED SKILLS & EXPERIENCE
· BSc, MSc, PharmD, RN, or related life-science credential (or equivalent scientific writing portfolio)
· years in medical writing, editing, health communications, academia, or agency internship
· Excellent written communication skills and the ability to communicate complex science clearly for professional and lay audiences
· Strong medical research skills; comfortable searching PubMed, published academic journal literature, and product monographs to support medical claims

· Detail-oriented, organized, collaborative; embodies Outpost's
Good People who Get It

· Must be able to speak up confidently, ask questions
· Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Teams)
· Strong time management skills and ability to adhere to staggered timelines
· Must be highly conscientious, with an eye for detail

· Experience with project management software Motion (or similar like Monday, Asana, etc.)

Salary Range: $45,000 plus benefits
More about our team
The Associate Medical Writer will have the opportunity to join a small, collaborative team of medical communication specialists at Outpost379.
Our words educate and empower doctors and patients—the work we do is important—and we want to get better at it, actively. On our team, we know the value of flexible focus time, but at the same time, we feel that close mentorship and team collaboration are critical to develop our skills.
We meet virtually to set priorities, share strengths, and flag where help is needed. We try to be clear about our individual and collective strengths and also open about our weaknesses so that we might learn together.
In our view, medical writing is more than just stacking clinical claims. We feel that the strategy and creativity involved in medical writing is too often underappreciated. It is a true art to position precise data within a concise, compelling, and compliant narrative that serves an overarching brand strategy and suits each communication channel. We love the challenge of such puzzles.
Above all, we keep strategy at the forefront of everything we do. We are notorious question-askers and always push the broader team to consider WHY we are doing things. We lean in, and do not shy away from asking questions and giving our best advice. We also welcome feedback. It takes guts to offer an opinion just as it takes humility and grace to consider the differing opinions of others. We respect that dynamic and the value it brings.
About Outpost379.
Founded in Peterborough, Ontario, Outpost379 is an independent health-focused agency dedicated to
Making Health—Human
. We combine strategic thinking, scientific rigour, and creative storytelling to help brands and causes inspire and empower healthier living.
