Community Engagement Specialist

Reports to:
Manager, Community Partnerships


Main Objective:


The Community Engagement Specialist will work with the Community Engagement team to recruit for volunteers and outreach of families for reducing wait times to better support the communities in need.

This role would be ideal for a self-motivated person, who is knowledgeable about the varying communities within Toronto, who is confident attending and presenting at events, while having experience with building corporate and community partnerships.


Responsibilities:


  • Build and maintain solid, trusting relationships crossfunctionally within all departments and attend all departmental and mandatory staff meetings as required.
  • Be a visible and dynamic ambassador for Big Brothers Big Sisters of Toronto in the communities that we have prioritized in Toronto.

At this time those communities are:
Scarborough, Regent Park and North West Toronto. This position will focus on all areas of Toronto.

  • Develop and steward relevant community relationships for recruitment and referrals.
  • Engage in a variety of networking activities in the prioritized communities to promote volunteer recruitment
  • Work with other members of the Community Engagement team as well as the Service Delivery team to develop and implement action plans to increase awareness Big Brothers Big Sisters of Toronto's need for volunteers and opportunities for children and youth.
  • Facilitate information sessions virtually, in the community and within corporate offices for prospective volunteers.
  • Responsible for the completion of communication attempts to assigned volunteer inquiry contacts using the agency's Service Delivery Platform.
  • Organize, coordinate, and participate in volunteer recruitment fairs and community event to promote mentoring opportunities.
  • Build relationships with community partners to encourage referrals of volunteers (mentors) and youth (mentees).
  • Facilitate and/or coordinate youth mentoring programs which are in line with Big Brothers Big Sisters of Toronto's vision and mission that benefit high priority communities, children, youth and their families.
  • Abide by Big Brothers and Big Sisters of Canada National Standards as required.
  • Attend agency events and be an ambassador for Big Brothers Big Sisters of Toronto as requested. Maintain strict confidentiality and adhere to the privacy statement as set out in the Policies and Procedures at Big Brothers Big Sisters of Toronto

Job Qualifications:


  • A postsecondary diploma or degree in a related field (education, social services, child and youth work, family studies, etc.) or relevant experience with any postsecondary diploma or degree required.
  • Minimum 35 years' experience working within communities, volunteer engagement and/or recruitment.
  • Excellent interpersonal and conflict resolution skills.
  • Knowledge of community development as well as working with marginalized communities is an asset
  • Experience working in a diverse setting
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Demonstrated proficiency with Microsoft Office, including Word, Outlook, Excel and PowerPoint with general experience using any Client/Customer Relationship Management (CRM) software
  • Ability to work flexible hours including week nights and some weekends as required.
  • This position requires inoffice work as well as occasional travel within the community being served.
  • Successful Police Clearance and Vulnerable Sector Screening
