This hybrid-workplace role will operate out of Calgary, Alberta, but will report directly to the Sr. VP of Risk Management, based out of Wall, NJ, USA.

The Risk Manager will be responsible to coordinate and manage all areas of risk management and insurance compliance across all companies and divisions within Canada.


Duties/Responsibilities:


  • Manage the insurance program for all Canadian Operations, handling all aspects of various insurance programs including large, selfinsured retentions and captives.
  • Work with Sr. VP of Risk Management to procure commercial insurance for the corporation, prepare submission information, attend regular meetings with underwriters and brokers, evaluate coverage options, and negotiate terms and conditions of policies.
  • Evaluate and review complex insurance coverages, exclusions, and endorsements to identify coverage gaps.
  • Serve as the final authority in all claimrelated decisions within any selfinsured retention and is the liaison for the company with various insurance providers.
  • Monitor claim administration including TPA's and carrier adjusters.
  • Implement claim special handling instructions, claim controls, audits, reviews, KPIs, and claim performance metrics.
  • Develop and provide reports that detail the company's risk performance as to reserves, claim scorecards.
  • Review and negotiate contracts regarding insurance and indemnification issues in all contracts, bids, RFPs, and proposals.
  • Oversee and be responsible for providing all the necessary proof of insurance documentation for the company.
  • Demonstrated understanding of insurance collateral requirements, loss funds, IBNR, and claim expense management.
  • Other duties and projects, as assigned.

Required Skills/Abilities-Essential Functions:


  • Computer proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Exceptional analytical problem solving and organizational abilities.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills
  • Work requires willingness to work a flexible schedule including travel throughout Canada, as needed.
  • Attend work on a regular and dependable basis.
  • Ability to perform the essential functions of the job.
  • Ability to comply with all policies and procedures established by company.

Education and Experience:


  • Must have 35 years of insurance and claim experience preferably within the transportation industry and/or in a large, selfinsured retention or captive program.
  • Minimum of 35 years of experience in a similar role, preferably in the Transportation industry.
