Your Opportunity:


This position reports to the Site Health Services Manager at the Calgary Remand Centre and functions as a Psychologist in the context of a multidisciplinary team located within the correctional facility.

The provision of health services within the facility encompasses the adult male and female offender population.

The Corrections Psychologist performs screening and intake procedures, provides advanced and specialized interventions and treatments, completes psychological assessments in a wide variety of areas such as cognitive functioning, personality assessments, risk and behavioural assessment, and consults and collaborates as a member of a multi-disciplinary health services team and within the correctional services team.

This position involves working with offenders who present criminal and/or suicidal tendencies and potential for violent and aggressive behaviours. The Corrections Psychologist addresses the mental health needs of offenders with highly acute, highly chronic and highly complex problems.


Description:


As a Psychologist I, you will work with or within teams to provide a range of standard level psychology services to patients and their families within the established standards, directives, and policies for the work environment.

Your services may include psychological screening and/or assessment, diagnosis, interventions, rehabilitation, prevention and promotion, as well as educational activities.

You will collaborate with the multi-disciplinary team of healthcare professionals in planning and implementing services that align with best practices and ethical and professional standards.

You will provide input to the interprofessional team related to psychological factors, barriers and dynamics that influence client treatment planning, participation, outcomes and team functioning, and consult and collaborate with teams and community services.

Your duties may also include providing supervision to psychometrists, provisional psychologists and/or masters level psychology students, and providing input into program, policy and/or procedure development in addition to participating in formal research initiatives.

Required Qualifications:

Master's degree in Psychology in an applied area relevant to the practice setting from an accredited university program. Active or eligible for registration with the College of Alberta Psychologists (CAP).


Additional Required Qualifications:

Training or education specific to Forensic Psychology and the addiction and mental health needs of offenders. BLS-C (Basic Rescuer) required. Enhanced security screening is required. Fully registered with the College of Alberta Psychologists. Specialized expertise in assessment and therapy with concurrent disorders. Knowledge of the criminal justice system is required. Understanding of correctional facilities and population served. Ability to balance numerous demands and complex issues with conflicting priorities.

Works as a member of an inter-disciplinary team to effectively contribute to client care planning, delivery processes and enhancement of treatment effectiveness.

Uses critical thinking skills and sound judgment within a secure environment.


Preferred Qualifications:

Corrections experience preferred. Knowledge of community resources and assets.
