Monday to Friday, 8:30am - 4:30pm

Settlement Coordinator

The
Settlement Information Specialist provides one-to-one meetings with newcomer clients to establish and support an individual's settlement action plan.

As an important resource for clients, it is critical that the
Settlement Information Specialist remain up-to-date on current settlement resources, community and government services.

The
Settlement Information Specialist conducts one-to-one needs assessments and information sessions targeting clients' needs. Develops and facilitates group information sessions and presentations on topics related to settlement and community engagement.

The
Settlement Information Specialist liaises with Language Instructors, Newcomer Support Coach, Newcomer Community Connections Specialists, Employment Specialists and Coordinators to ensure that all services offered in the settlement services are current and appropriate for client needs.


These are your responsibilities:


  • Conduct needs assessment of clients to determine their needs and the supports that are appropriate for each individual client through the use of a settlement plan
  • Provide noninterventional, culturally sensitive counselling and support to clients, while maintaining professional boundaries and scope of practice
  • Assist clients with specific settlement needs to resources relating to economic, social, cultural, educational, health, recreational, and other services that contribute to the initial and ongoing settlement of the client
  • Identify immediate, short, medium and longterm settlement needs (goals) of the newcomers and devise settlement plan based on the assessment and client's needs
  • Input data into appropriate database, maintain required program records, and submit reports as requested by the Coordinator
  • Complete weekly and monthly narrative, success stories and statistical reporting of client services with accuracy and in a timely manner
  • Provide clients with adequate resources to aid in their transition, such as referrals related to crisis intervention, counseling services or referrals for translation services
  • If applicable, provide Commissioner of Oath services on behalf of Centre for Skills as it relates to supporting newcomers with their settlement plans
  • Provide clients with information and referrals to appropriate internal and external services
  • Develop, update and facilitate internal and external group presentations and 11 information sessions on various settlement related topics
  • Share best practices with settlement team, acting as the team's resource by staying uptodate on trends
  • Monitor client progress and follow up with clients if needed to address any updates to their settlement plan
  • Handle client files in a confidential manner and in accordance with relevant privacy legislation, funder and Centre for Skills guidelines
  • Conduct internet basedresearch from reliable sources on settlement topics to client needs, personal and professional knowledge
  • Seek out and participate in learning opportunities and professional development related to working with newcomer populations, and share the knowledge gained with the team
  • Represent the team at networking events and partnership meeting tables
  • Participate in crossdepartments program and projects. Participate in crosstraining opportunities as needed
  • Attend and participate in staff, department, and other meetings as required
  • Meet the minimum target numbers stipulated by the funder and internal strategic goals
  • At times, work flexible schedule to meet with clients at different Centre for Skills sites, approved itinerant locations, and evening classes; and,
  • Contribute to creating and maintaining a positive and supportive work environment

What you need to bring to this job:

  • 3+ years related experience
  • Postsecondary education in human servi
