Job Description:


This position will supervise various ARD projects, in terms of data quality, interpretation and reporting, to ensure client expectations are met with respect to schedule and quality.


The role encompasses a large percentage of time in client interaction; in terms of reporting data along with planning and designing scopes of work for Acid Rock Drainage characterisation studies.


In addition to the technical side of data reporting and overall customer service, this role also includes the expectation that some sales activity will be involved in terms of letting new potential clients to SGS know of ARD services along with other SGS Minerals services.


This position will activity support SGS HSE procedures/policies and Code of Integrity, by coordinating production activities in a safe and environmentally sound manner.


  • Provide technical support to ARD test programs.
  • Supervise staff to ensure Quality Control (QC) standards are met for data review.
  • Work closely with the ARD Manager, ARD Supervisor, Technologists and Technicians to develop new laboratory methods in response to client needs.
  • Monitor and maintain laboratory QC standards. Responsible for the review of the data produced by the ARD Technicians/Technologists to ensure quality standards are met.
  • Data entry, analysis and reporting of static and kinetic testing and other ARDrelated test work.
  • Work in partnership with other Supervisors, Project Managers, and Technologists to ensure customer satisfaction and that client deadlines are met.
  • Plan and initiate procedures and systems to ensure continuous improvement of equipment and processes.
  • Develop and maintain good relationships with clients and vendors.
  • ARD business development represent the ARD business to clients, develop business opportunities, prepare scopes of work, issue proposals and coordinate project acceptance and opening.
  • Verify reports, certificates and invoices to send to the customers
  • Ensure timely and accurate communication with clients by regular updates to help them meet their contractual needs and to advise them on SGS' capabilities and limitations
  • Acts with professionalism at all times when representing the business to clients, peers and employees. Pursue opportunities to expand the company profile and clients relationship
  • Maintain a focus on health and safety.
  • May be assigned to coordinate special or ad hoc projects.
  • Extended hours may be required as well as travel to other SGS and client locations.

Qualifications:

A post-secondary education (three-year diploma) in a Science related program (Environmental Science, Chemistry or Geology,) is required.

  • A minimum of 2 years of experience in a laboratory setting is required.

REQUIRED SKILLS

  • Must be proficient in using various types of computer software (Word, Excel. PowerPoint & Outlook).
  • Strong leadership skills or demonstrate the potential of.
  • Display an interest in customer service and client interaction
  • A sense of diplomacy and networking skills are essential to build relationships with external clients as well as key internal personnel.
  • Ability to work well with others or independently.
  • Must be creative, innovative and client focused.
  • Must use skilled judgement in identifying sales opportunities, closing business and resolving customer related issues.
  • Previous experience providing client services is an asset.
  • Excellent customer service, client support, and business service consulting skills.
  • Able to be flexible and adaptable to changing demand and the ability to problemsolve.
  • Ability to operate to the highest standards of ethics, in accordance with the SGS Statement of Integrity
  • Proven time management skills and a superior attention to detail. Must be accountable, selfmotivated; provide team leadership and motivation towards a common goal
