The Youth Worker position works within the Reset youth team supporting School Readiness and Schools Out programming. Plans and conducts group sessions and provides skill building in problem areas.


Duties and Key Responsibilities:


  • Plans, Prepares and conducts group educational sessions addressing conflict resolution, communication skills, problem solving skills, etc.
  • Develops and implements shortterm, issuespecific intervention plans within program guidelines in consultation with the team
  • Working with the youth in planning/organizing activities
  • Works collaboratively with the Richmond School District and the outreach teacher
  • Maintains related records and statistics and provides reports to the supervisor as required.
  • Motivating/engaging the youth to participate in the recreational program.
  • Working as part of a Child and Youth Care team in a structured setting.
  • Write accurate session notes detailing activities of the day for each of the youth and report to Program Director on daily interactions.
  • Create and maintain a caring environment that provides safety, security and acceptance for the youth.
  • Has ability to develop trusting relationships with challenging youth.
  • Has knowledge and skill in using basic counselling techniques when dealing with youth and has the ability to work effectively with acting out and aggressive behavior, noncompliance, lack of motivation, and low selfesteem
  • Liaises with and/or promotes the interests of clients with other community service providers, professionals and school personnel as required. Accompanies clients to meetings and appointments as required.
  • Is knowledgeable of community resources that will meet or enhance client's needs; will establish and provide liaison education and advocacy with and to other professionals, other agencies and communities and maintain positive working relationships.
  • Performs all duties required in facilitating the School Readiness group and the Schools Out group.
  • Other duties as determined

Requirements:


  • Diploma in a related human/social service field.
  • Valid Class 5 BC Driver's License
  • Must have own vehicle in good working order and with appropriate business insurance
  • Satisfactory security clearance
  • Current First Aid and CPR certificates

Additional Information:


This position will be required to engage challenging/vulnerable youth and will require a highly motivated individual with energy to spare.

Group facilitation experience is considered an asset. Experience working in the community of Richmond and with vulnerable youth and the school district would be an asset.


Hours of Work:


This position is 35 hours:
Monday to Thursday from 9am to 6:15 pm.

Wage Grid 11 $26.74/hour per, benefits after 3 months full time employment per the Touchstone Collective Agreement
