Job Summary


The Procurement and Supply Management (P&SM) department ensures internal stakeholders have the appropriate products and services to deliver customer needs.

P&SM manages the complete supply chain and relationship with CN's suppliers. The Performance Team has the mission to support the P&SM department to meet its strategic objectives.

Its members work to improve departmental efficiency by leading projects, developing key capabilities and indicators, standardizing processes, providing training and coaching, and overseeing the department governance.

The Manager, Performance is responsible for overseeing and leading a team of analysts. The incumbent coordinates and manages a portfolio of programs and mandates under the responsibility of the Performance Team. The incumbent acts as an influencer and facilitator for strategic discussions within the department. In addition, the role ensures the development of strategic capabilities such as data analytics, process management and continuous improvement.

The Manager, Performance plays a role in the definition of departmental goals and the disciplined tracking of key performance indicators.

In many aspects, this position acts as a change catalyst within the department by challenging the status quo, proposing valuable initiatives and managing changes and transitions.


Main Responsibilities

Lead and Manage the Performance Team

  • Lead the definition and planning of team objectives and mandates, and readjust the plan based on P&SM priorities
  • Determine the team's focus and capacity allocation based on the opportunity pipeline, the department's objectives and priority changes
  • Coordinate efforts and leverage synergies by understanding links between projects and mandates
  • Manage and support team members in the execution of projects and tasks
  • Coach team members to build technical skills and to improve efficiency in delivery

Enable Strategic Planning

  • Support the P&SM leadership team in strategic planning and measurement (e.g. reviews, strategic discussions, goals and measures definition)
  • Lead the communication of strategic plans through specific events and continuous efforts
  • Act as an advisor in gathering benchmarks, research and studies to feed department leadership discussions
  • Ensure the alignment of ongoing projects and initiatives with departmental targets and objectives

Build and Sustain Performance Capabilities

  • Lead efforts to define and implement the department's program management practices to ensure alignment, prioritization and execution of critical efforts
  • Lead the delivery of the departmental analytics roadmap, including the capture and prioritization of opportunities, the development and roll out of new data tools/platforms, the education of stakeholders on analytics practices and the improvement of selfservice analytics adoption
  • Lead the definition and tracking of departmental key performance indicators, including supporting other teams to compile data, measures and reports
  • Lead the sustainment and improvement of the department's processes, including managing crossfunctional initiatives
  • Lead the roll out and sustainment of a lean management system by being a lean leader role model and coaching others in developing similar skills
Support Reporting Requirements

  • Act as a key contributor for preparing departmental communications such as executive and board level reporting
  • Coordinate reporting efforts as per the needs of internal stakeholders (e.g., DJSI response to Supply Chain questions)
  • Lead the execution of various executive governance committees

Working Conditions
The role has standard working conditions in an office environment. A business casual dress code is required.


Requirements:


Experience
Performance Management

  • Minimum 7 years of relevant experience in process management, data analytics, strategic planning and/or sustainable procurement
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in similar roles including management consulting, performance management and continuous improvement

Education/Certification/Designation

  • Bachelor's Degree in Administration, Management, Supply Chain, Engineering, or equivalent
  • Master's Degree in Business Administration (MBA)
  • Certification in continuous improvement methodologies
  • Certification in Project Management
  • Certification in Program Management
  • Any designation for these above would be consid
