Ministry of Health

Various locations in BC

The Ministry of Health has overall responsibility for ensuring that quality, appropriate, cost-effective, and timely health services are available for all British Columbians.

The province's health authorities are the organizations primarily responsible for health service delivery.

The ministry also works in partnership with the First Nations Health Authority (FNHA) to support the health and wellness of First Nations people in British Columbia, as well as the Métis Nation British Columbia and the BC Association of Aboriginal Friendship Centres to support the health and wellness of First Nations, Métis and urban Indigenous peoples in the province.

As the primary area of government responsible for seniors, the ministry develops and advises on policies, legislation, programs and information that help support British Columbians to age well.

The Seniors Advocate Act establishes the authorities and mandate of the Seniors Advocate.

The Office of the Seniors Advocate will help ensure a more accessible, transparent and accountable approach to seniors' care in British Columbia, which is the first jurisdiction in Canada to create an Office of the Seniors Advocate.

Serving as a voice for seniors who are residents of British Columbia age 65 or older, or those less than 65 years receiving seniors' services, the Seniors Advocate will work to promote positive change that will benefit seniors, their families and caregivers.

The Seniors Advocate will serve as an independent voice for seniors using voluntary collaborative processes with seniors and key stakeholders (governments, community agencies, private organizations, and advocacy groups) to identify and understand systemic issues affecting the well-being of seniors and to propose innovative solutions to address them.

A complete role description and listing of qualifications is attached. The appointee will be required to consent to a criminal record check.
