About the Opportunity:


  • The Ward Clerk provides clerical and reception duties within an inpatient unit which provides service to individuals diagnosed with a mental illness. This position requires a high degree of sensitivity to persons and families dealing with mental health problems many of whom may experience significant stress and crises in their lives.

Representative duties include:

  • Prepare requisitions for diagnostic and therapeutic services for patients
  • Coordinate appointments with other units
  • Types inpatient correspondence, reports and letters
  • Place all reports on chart according to unit procedures
  • Maintain statistical records
  • Files clinical reports and correspondence
  • Perform clerical duties related to procedures such as admission, discharge, transfers
  • Act as Unit receptionist
  • Other related duties (for example, occasionally taking minutes) as assigned.

About You:


  • Grade 12
  • One (1) year Secretarial or Business course
  • Medical Terminology Course
  • One (1) year clerical experience in a mental health setting within the last five (5) years
  • Demonstrated interpersonal and communication skills applicable to this client base (in person and by telephone)
  • Proficient and accurate keyboarding skills
  • Ability to work in an area with frequent interruptions
  • Competencies in other languages an asset, French preferred
  • Successful Applicants are required to provide a Criminal Record Check (including Vulnerable Sector Search) to People Services before starting employment and assume any associated costs as a condition of employment

Hours:


  • Long Assignment, Full-Time position; 75 hours biweekly
  • Approximate nine (9) month long assignment

Compensation and Incentives:

$ $24.89 Hourly
