The Global Asset Liability Management (GALM) team is responsible for managing the financial market risks within the General Account and Variable Annuity businesses, including the development of investment and risk management strategies to support the company's business and financial objectives.
The Risk Modeling Team will be responsible for building, maintaining, and enhancing models to generate liability sensitivities in support of GALM's mandate to manage the company's market risk exposures.
The new team's primary objective is to modify existing, or create new liability models to be more efficient, flexible, and that can produce market sensitivities as needed to support market risk forecasts and hedging decisions.
The requisite skill sets of the Risk Modeling Team members will include:- Segregated fund and/or variable annuity modeling
- Pathwise, Python, AXIS, or similar coding experience
- Solid understanding of option pricing theory
- Familiarity with life insurance products, specifically Participating and Universal Life products
The team will work closely with other members of the GALM team, Group Actuarial, the business units, Financial Risk Management, and IT to review and enhance (or build mew) models as needed.
The Manager for the Risk Modeling Team will support the model development work. The position can be based in Toronto, or Boston.
Responsibilities:
- Evaluate the existing tools used to generate liability information used in the market risk management processes.
- Recommend enhancements to existing models, or recommend new models, that will support more frequent model updates. For example, the models will ultimately need to quantify liability exposures as needed based on changing market conditions and/or changes in liability assumptions.
- Execute the recommended model changes using efficient tools and processes
- Collaborate with Businesses and other stakeholders to review the models and results from those models to ensure they accurately reflect the underlying risk exposures.
- Work with the GALM teams to leverage existing risk management tools and/or recommend new tools to support a more frequent risk management process.
Qualifications:
- Segregated fund and/or variable annuity modeling
- Pathwise, Python, AXIS, or similar coding experience
- Solid understanding of option pricing theory
- Solid understanding of insurance company assets (fixed income, alternative investments, derivatives), liabilities (insurance and wealth management products and their characteristics), and asset/liability modelling
- FSA/FCIA with investment experience, or Masters in a quantitative field, or CFA/PRM/FRM, or other relevant risk management designation
- Minimum of 5 years working experience in a financial/investment risk management environment
- Strong communication skills, both in written form and orally
- Strong problemsolving skills

Salary & Benefits
The annual base salary for this role in the primary location of Toronto, Ontario is expected to be between $82,500.00 CAD - $148,500.00 CAD.
