The Opportunity
We are currently looking to hire a Certified Counsellor for our Rehabilitation Facility in Grouard, Alberta. This opportunity will be a one week on - one week off permanent position. You'll get to work with a growing organization where you will gain valuable experience in the field of rehabilitation care


While working on-site, Kapown will provide complementary accommodations and food.


Reporting to the Team Lead and Treatment Coordinator, the Certified Counsellor is responsible for promoting positive life skills and supporting the reduction of the negative impact of alcohol and drug abuse.

The primary methods used by the Certified Counsellor to support clients is lectures, group work, and one-to-one counselling. The Counsellor will provide support to clients as they learn and develop skills to maintaining a healthy lifestyle.


Some key responsibilities include:

  • Provide person centered, recovery based and culturally appropriate assessments, treatments, case management, crisis intervention, education, and referral services to our clients.
  • Maintain a caseload of 1 to 8 patients which includes managing case file work and writing patient reports (i.e., termination/discharge, incident, or referral).
  • Prepare and dispense medication, taking steps to ensure the pharmaceutical and therapeutic suitability of the medication for its intended use, and taking steps to ensure its proper use.
  • Develop and implement treatment plans and provide interventions most appropriate to each client's needs.
  • Through positive social interaction, responsible for assessing and attending to the client's physical, family, social, mental, emotional, and educational needs, etc.
  • Record pertinent data that may hinder or alleviate patient treatment.
  • Maintain proper files to fulfil NNADAP requirements for statistical data.
  • Enforce policies and procedures to ensure high quality of care for clients and physical and mental safety of clients and staff.
  • Deliver lectures and presentations regarding alcohol and drug education that will educate clients on the dangers and consequences of alcohol & drugs.

Who You Are
As the Certified Counsellor, you have extensive knowledge in in your field and are passionate about helping others


Some important skills include:

  • Provides accurate and timely information to key stakeholders, facilitates dialog through openended questions and actively listens.
  • Uses a calm demeanor and maintains composure when faced with aggressiveness.
  • Does not show frustration when resisted or blocked, tries to understand people and data before making judgements and acting.
  • Provides accurate information reporting, communicates concisely when providing status updates.
  • Able to build relationships with peers, organizational leaders, and key stakeholders.

You possess the following education, experience, and skills:

  • Certified Addictions Counsellor (CCAC) from a recognized institution and governing body.
  • Completion of Post-Secondary education in counseling, social work, or relevant discipline. Related fields include a diploma, degree, or certificate in Psychology, or community addictions or mental health. A combination of education and experience will be considered.
  • Registration with the Alberta College of Social Workers or College of Alberta Psychologists is an asset.
  • Minimum of 3 years' experience in a Certified Counsellor position or similar role.
  • Proven experience in developing effective treatment plans.
  • Experience writing assessments and reports to monitor client progress.
  • First Aid Certificate and CPR Level C.
  • Knowledge of clerical procedures for maintaining records and completing forms.
  • Knowledge of evidencebased practices, motivational interviewing, and cognitivebehavioral techniques.
