    Engineering Summer Student (Transportation)


    Job Location: Delta, British Columbia, Canada
    Term: Approximately 4 months (May to August 2024)
    Hours of work: 32 hours per week
    Applicable disciplines within the above departments: CIVIL

    We have an exciting opportunity for a co-op/summer student to join the Engineering department. The successful proponent will work in a supportive team with the opportunity to attain a broad range of engineering experience including utilities, development, transportation, steep slopes and flood protection.

    Under the general direction of the Manager of Transportation, you will be responsible for the following assignments:

  • Reviewing highway use permit application and transportation management plans;
  • Responding to public inquiries, including problem identification, option evaluation and report preparation;
  • Conduct traffic signal and pedestrian crosswalk warrants;
  • Undertaking manual traffic and pedestrian counts at intersections including preparing summary reports;
  • Compiling information of various transportation assets such as retaining walls, bridges, streetlights, traffic signals etc.; and
  • Performing a variety of inspections and tasks when needed.
    Desirable Training and Experience:
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills;
  • Strong customer service skills;
  • Skilled in the use of Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint;
  • Experience with AutoCAD would be an asset; and,
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
    Required Licences:
    A valid Class 5 BC Driver's License is required.

    Preference will be given to applicants currently enrolled in an undergraduate program with a focus on civil engineering studies. Previous experience related to development, construction, utilities and/or municipal engineering services would be an asset.

    The City of Delta provides a competitive salary of $25.93 per hour +12% in lieu of benefits. Interested applicants are requested to apply online at to competition number 24-93 EX by April 3, 2024.
