We're looking for a forward-thinking creator to join us as Social Video Strategist, to help in our mission of building engaged audiences.


We're looking for a bright and creative social video lead, who loves hybrid roles that combine strategy, execution, and brand collaboration.

As Social Video Strategist on SJC's Audience team, you'll serve as the in-house expert for social video content, partnering with our eight editorial brands to develop social-first content that's relevant, engaging, and experimental.

You'll work to build a scalable video strategy for our social platforms to engage our online communities across our media brands including _Toronto Life, Maclean's, Chatelaine, _and _FASHION _.


You'll be a crucial member of our Audience team as we engage new audiences, tell compelling stories, and drive growth on core channels.

This is a unique opportunity to work in-house across multiple owned brands to shape social and video content that reaches tens of millions of people.

We're looking for a video strategist and creator with deep experience producing on TikTok, YouTube and Instagram that can effectively shoot, edit and produce.

You need to love jumping into data and trends, as reporting on performance and identifying insights is mission critical.


The main aspects of this role:

  • Build strategies, concepts, and video templates to scale social video content and engagement across Instagram, TikTok, YouTube and Pinterest, including tapping into UGC
  • Partner with editorial to test, create and measure performance of video content
  • Wearing multiple hats in a day, switching gears between being a strategist, creator, and short video editor
  • Leverage cutting edge AI tools to make your work more efficient and innovative. You should be comfortable teaching yourself new platforms like Midjourney, GlossAI, Jasper or Munch
  • Report on social performance across all platforms and share insights amongst stakeholders
  • Work with a wide range and quality of video and static imagery—from a collection of photography, short video clips, and animations—and turn them into content assets built for specific platforms and audiences
  • Create original social video for Instagram, TikTok, YouTube and Pinterest both natively and outside the app

Required experience, knowledge, and skills:


  • You can create and produce video content on your own for different platforms, using a variety of different sources including photo and video assets, repurposing UGC, etc.
  • Expert skills in social video producing, sound editing, and copywriting.
  • Eager to continue to evolve skills in socialfirst video content, while tapping into AI tools when it makes sense: mobile creator apps and inapp editing (TikTok video editing, IG stories, etc.).
  • Able to manage and prioritize a wide array of tasks without compromising the general level of creativity.
  • Work with a wide range and quality of video and static imagery from a collection of photography, short video clips, and animations and turn them into content assets built for specific platforms and audiences.
  • Comfortable working with numbers, measuring performance and reporting on and identifying trends.
  • Can proactively identify opportunities for growth in trending topics, socialfirst stories and formats.
