Position Summary:


Reporting to the PD Operations Manager or the PD Group Leader, Formulations R&D; the Formulation Scientist will execute on assigned aspects of pre-formulation studies, formulation development and optimization studies, and informal and formal stability studies as directed with quality, speed and efficiency supporting multiple projects in the portfolio.

The Scientist will have familiarity with various aspects of the drug development process in a regulated environment, including topics such as Quality by Design (QbD), Design of Experiment (DOE), and compliance with all regulatory guidelines, all while maintaining patient first culture.

The Scientist will be able to work independently with direction from senior members within the group.


This position is located in Strathroy, Ontario, one of two sites located in Canada offering softgel development and manufacturing capabilities for the Pharmaceutical and Consumer Health industries.

We have a broad range of integrated formulation, manufacturing, analytical and packaging services to offer full-service turnkey solutions.


Shift:
Regular working hours: 8:00 AM-4:30 PM or 8:30 AM-5:00 PM with a 30-minute unpaid lunch


The Role:


  • Execute against assigned formulation lab activities with quality, speed, and efficiency to ensure ontime delivery.
  • Working knowledge and consistent execution of formulation development, excipient compatibility assessment, data analysis and good documentation practices
  • Independently execute technical aspects associated with formulation development.
  • Participate in the development and troubleshooting of formulations and assessment techniques in a timely manner to support internal and customer needs, complaints, and investigations.
  • Understanding and communication of risks, mitigation, and contingency planning
  • Presentation of project information at local reviews and with customers as appropriate
  • Maintain compliance with training, best practices, safety, and cleaning requirements and operate under and maintain GMP/GLP conditions.
  • Must be able to work extended hours, weekends as needed, especially when problems occur or when deadlines must be met and perform other duties as required.
  • Bachelor's degree in science or related field is required. (Bio, BioChem, Chem)
  • MSc Degree is an asset.
  • Minimum 1+ years of experience in a formulation's role in a lab setting is preferred.
  • Experience working in a manufacturing, pharmaceutical and/or GMP facility is asset.
  • Familiarity with typical formulation and analytical approaches for pharmaceutical development.
  • Excellent time management and organizational skills.
  • Requires experience in troubleshooting and problem solving.
  • Skilled in the use of Microsoft Office.
  • Strong interpersonal skills are essential in dealing with people at all levels and in a variety of functional areas; able to influence and motivate others to quickly achieve results.
  • The employee is often required to sit and use their hands and fingers, to handle or feel and to manipulate keys on a keyboard.
  • Use of manual dexterity is required.
  • The employee is occasionally required to stand, walk, reach with arms and hands, bend, or twist, and to stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl.
  • Vision abilities required by this job include close vision.
  • There is also the potential exposure to chemicals.
