    Position overview

    The Vancouver Airport Authority has an opening for a permanent, full-time Power Engineer in the Facilities Maintenance Department, reporting to the Manager, Transport Infrastructure Maintenance. The successful candidate will be responsible to ensure the heating and cooling plants at the YVR facility operates within the regulatory safety requirements. The role ensures the plant is functioning reliably and efficiently using software tools, specialized schooling, and system knowledge.

    Key responsibilities include:

    • Safety and operational inspections of main boiler and chiller plants which includes, among others, reviewing and monitoring the control system for any active alarms as well as troubleshooting and making corrective actions as required.
    • Make critical operating decisions to ensure the heating and cooling plant is operating efficiently, supplying all areas of the terminal.
    • Safety and operational inspections of domestic hot water boilers and solar systems to ensure all safety devices are working and that the systems are working safely within design set points.
    • Using control system, inspect all air handling units are working properly and meeting set point.
    • Receive and prioritize all trouble calls from operations.
    • Conduct preventive and corrective Maintenance on all HVAC Equipment.

    Key qualifications include:

    • Completion of a two to three year technical or community college certificate or diploma (Fourth Class Power Engineering Certificate of Competency).
    • At least 5 years' experience as a Fourth Class power engineer working on many different systems i.e. boilers, pumps centrifugal chillers, air cooler chillers, fans, fan coils, controls, and controllers, geo thermal systems, solar systems, ground water well field and heat exchangers.
    • Demonstrated experience with operating and maintaining HVAC system as YVRAA has a wide range of different HVAC systems.
    • Mechanically inclined, familiar with electrical equipment and wiring, as well as controls and how they operate and be able to calibrate them, read and understand complex computer programs.
    • Ability to navigate through DDC systems.
    • Excellent communication and writing skills.

    This position is open to both Vancouver Airport Authority employees and external applicants. Previous job performance will be taken into consideration for all internal candidates that apply for this position.

    Salary Range : $65,116 to $85,107 per annum, based on 40 hours per week. This is individually tailored to reflect your unique experience, qualifications and internal equity.
