Summary of Position


Abalone Construction is a privately owned company with over 40 years specializing in heavy civil construction in a variety of markets including Oil & Gas, Infrastructure, Roadbuilding, and Land Development.


The Project Manager / Estimator is responsible for the estimating, overall contract administration, and execution of heavy civil construction projects both in office and on project sites.

This position is accountable for project safety, quality, project resources, and performance while maintaining excellent stakeholder relationships.


Role and Responsibilities
Estimating

  • Review tender information and submittal requirements to establish a firm understanding of the tender.
  • Attend prebid meetings / site inspections as required to assess field conditions and communicate with Superintendents as needed for input and direction on execution.
  • Perform takeoffs to establish the scope of work and build resource assemblies required to complete the various stages of the project.
  • Identify and quantify risk factors for each project.
  • Prepare and administer subcontractor material and vendor RFQ's.
  • Prepare and compile submission documentation including project execution plans, schedules, and tender specific HSE documentation.
Project Management

  • Responsible for all aspects of management throughout the life cycle of the project, including but not limited to, implementation of corporate HSE programs, scheduling, quality control, risk management, and effective utilization of resources.
  • Providing general oversite and guidance for the project team through regular feedback, training, and coaching.
  • Manage financial aspects of contracts by providing cost analysis and monitoring the contract budget versus the scope of work to identify and manage change when present.
  • Manage and maintain positive relations and communication with clients, consultants, and subcontractors, including negotiation and awarding of subcontracts for scopes of work as well as the review and evaluation of subcontractor performance.
  • Provide safety leadership through implementation of the Abalone Safety Program and monitoring safety performance in all aspects of each project.
  • Other tasks as required to ensure project success.

Qualifications, Training and Education

Requirements:


  • An Engineering Degree or Engineering Technology Diploma.
  • Progressively responsible experience in Civil Industrial Construction and Estimating.
  • Progressively responsible experience in Project Management.
  • Outstanding relationship building, communication, presentation, and leadership skills.
  • Strong planning, organizational, and time management skills including the ability to manage project budgets and schedules.
Assets

  • Heavy civil Industrial experience.
  • Gold Seal Certification (or working towards it).
  • PMP Designation (or working towards it).
  • Excellent computer knowledge and experience with Microsoft Office, MS Projects, Bluebeam, AutoCAD and Bid to Win.

Working Conditions


This position will be office and project based, involving frequent visits to the field for inspections and audits which could include overnight travel.

This position will require occasional physically demanding work in different positions (kneeling, standing, lifting, etc.), as well as long periods of sitting/typing while performing office & computer related tasks.
