    Hudbay Minerals Inc. is seeking a Mechanical / Electrical Trainer at our Copper Mountain Mine in Princeton, BC. This position is a 5x2, Monday to Friday, day shift schedule.

    Please note that this opportunity is NOT a fly-in-fly-out position.

    Mechanical / Electrical Trainer

    Location

    Copper Mountain Mine is located near the town of Princeton, British Columbia at the center of the scenic Similkameen Valley. Princeton is a community-oriented town with a diverse offering of activities, especially for those who love the outdoors. Princeton is also in close proximity to both the city of Vancouver and the Okanagan.

    Summary

    Reporting to the Mine Maintenance Superintendent, the Mechanical / Electrical Trainer is an integral part of the Mine Maintenance team playing a key role in the training and development of our tradespeople, apprentices, technicians, and labourers. The role will provide mentorship, deliver in-house training, support the apprenticeship program, and arrange external training resources with the end goal of building capacity and strengthening competency within our Mine Maintenance team.

    Responsibilities

  • Ensure all work is carried out in accordance with WorkSafe BC, Health, Safety and Reclamation Code for Mines in BC, and Copper Mountain Mine's Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs),
  • In conjunction with the Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEM's), develop, arrange, and administer technical training courses that will build in-house capacity to care for, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair equipment within the mine's fleet,
  • Obtain "Train the Trainer" certifications and then administer training courses including, but not limited to, Confined Space, Fall Arrest, Mobile Elevating Work Platform (MEWP), etc.,
  • Work with crew supervisors to ensure worker training is current and renewed prior to expiry to maintain compliance,
  • Mentor and support the apprentices as they move through the program including on-the-job training, help with exam preparations and school subject matter,
  • Monitor progress of the apprentices to ensure work exposure meets or exceeds the subject matter required for each year of their apprenticeship.
  • Assist in the preparation of annual maintenance and capital budgets,
  • Perform any other responsibilities related to the role as assigned by the supervisor.
  • Education & Experience

  • Red Seal Trades Certification,
  • Current BC Mine Supervisor Certificate,
  • Previous experience with instructing and the development of training materials is an asset,
  • A minimum of 5 years of varied maintenance experience,
  • Supervisory experience is considered an asset,
  • Good computer skills including Google Workspace,
  • Must possess a valid Class 5 British Columbia driver's license.

  • Working Conditions

  • Frequent exposure to Maintenance Shops, Field Maintenance and Mine Operations areas,
  • Team environment with regularly scheduled and ad-hoc meetings,
  • Work includes manual dexterity to use desktop computers and peripheral devices,
  • Working outside exposure to hazardous environments with the requirement of wearing Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
  • Rate of Pay

    $110k - $130k / annum
