Purpose:

To provide surgical nursing care to general surgery, plastics, ENT, gynecology, vascular, thoracic and urology patients.

Education and Training:

A graduate from an approved School of Nursing (Registered Practical Nursing Program) with a current certificate of competence with the College of Nurses of Ontario.
Current certification in Basic Cardiac Life Support BCLS (if not current must be obtained within 3 months
Current certification in Peripheral Intravenous Initiation and Maintenance.
Must have relevant experience working within full scope of practice, including medication administration, within the last two (2) years.
Ministry of Labour "Worker Health and Safety Awareness in 4 Steps" training certificate is required.
Completion of RPN standardization (all modules) required.

Experience:

Current practical experience with intravenous therapy, IV medication administration, nutritional support, tracheostomy care and blood administration.
Recent relevant experience required (within past 5 years) caring for surgical patients in the pre and postop phase.
