The Opportunity
The Captain, also known as the Master, is the highest-ranking officer on board.

As a leader, the Captain is responsible for the safe and efficient operation of the vessel, the well-being of the crew and passengers, and compliance with maritime regulations and industry standards.

The Captain's responsibilities encompass a broad range of tasks, including navigation, safety management, crew supervision, and administrative duties.


Key Responsibilities
Responsibilities and essential job functions include, but are not limited to, the following:

General Tasks:

  • Project support for vessel refit located in Tallinn Estonia
  • The Vessel is fully equipped, well maintained and seaworthy in all respects.
  • The Vessel's crew is competent and well informed of appropriate levels of safety and environmental protection.
  • The ship operation is planned and executed with good seamanship and in accordance with approved safe work procedures.
  • Important operational information is communicated to the Technical Department as soon as possible.
  • Potential hazards observed accidents and nearaccidents, incidents of pollution and nonconformance's with the safe work procedures are reviewed and corrected, and that this is reported to the Company without delay.
  • The SMS is implemented and reviewed regularly in order to ensure its usefulness and continuously improvement. (Masters review).

Special Tasks:

  • Navigation and machinery operation
  • Port entry
  • Port stays
  • Loading, including serving of relevant notices and authorization of cargo documents.
  • Discharging
  • Ballasting
  • Bunkering
  • Tankcleaning / cleaning of cargo holds
  • Port departure, readiness for sea
  • Communication with owners, Charterer's and third parties

Ensure time and resources are allocated to:

  • Maintenance of the Vessel, machinery and equipment
  • Maintenance of classification status and certificates
  • Safety training and drills, including handling of dangerous cargo
  • Identifying environmental aspects related to shipboard operations
  • Separation, segregation and proper discharging of polluted mixtures and sediments
  • Maintenance and control of hygienic and safe conditions in accommodations, galleys and Provisionstores
  • Procurement and supplies, including maintenance of safe stocks of spare parts.
  • The Master delegates responsibilities to the Chief Engineer and the Chief Mate, including supervision of junior officers, but retain direct command of officers responsible for bridge watches when underway or at anchor.

Qualifications

  • Holing Master COC
  • Valid Transport Canada <150T Certificate of Competency
  • Three (3) years relevant experience preferred
  • Valid Seafarers Medical certificate
  • Valid STCW courses
  • MED A2 / MED A3 and ROC-MC
  • ECDIS generic training
  • Advanced First Aid an asset
  • Ability to clear a drug and alcohol test prior to hiring and potential random tests throughout employment with prior notice;
  • Excellent comprehension and command of the English language; (written & verbal);
  • Reliable mode of transportation & valid class 5 driver's license;
  • Bridge watch rating, SVMO, and Simulated electronic navigation Limited all considered an asset.

Working Conditions

  • Repetitive, physical activity involved (walking, kneeling, reaching, lifting)
  • Lifting light to medium weight (up to 20 too 50lbs)
  • Exposure to environmental elements including extreme weather conditions
