Position Summary:
_**The On Point Facilitator role is multifaceted.

It supports the program workers in the day to day work of cleaning up discarded harm reduction supplies in the community and green spaces.

The role emphasizes outdoor work, exceptional customer service, and mentorship of program workers.

This position plays an important role in the harm reduction programs at JHS Durham, dedicated to promoting public safety and responsible disposal of syringes while fostering employability skills for those with lived experience.

Responsibilities_**Key duties include:

  • Safety and Best Practices: Ensure safety for oneself and others by following best practice guidelines.

Program Workers: Mentor, support, train, and build rapport with program workers to meet ongoing needs effectively.

Training: Provide training, including safer sharps handling, employability skills training, etc. as required.
-
Program Promotion: Assist with promoting the harm reduction program and the safe disposal of substance use paraphernalia to service users and the community.

Community Education: Educate and inform the community about the benefits of the harm reduction model as appropriate.

Scheduling: Schedule workers' hours and locations for program activities.

Referrals: Provide referrals to the appropriate resources for program participants.

Team Meetings: Lead team meetings and manage minute-taking duties.

Community Relations: Foster relationships with community organizations to support program goals

Record Keeping: Accept, monitor, and record incoming syringes, drug paraphernalia, and sharps containers used for disposal. Maintain program records.

Reporting: Complete accurate statistical and narrative reports.

Deadlines: Meet all required deadlines for program activities and reporting.

Requirements_**
Education and Experience:
  • A college diploma or higher in a related field, with a preference for backgrounds in Addictions and Mental Health.

Approach:


  • Utilize a traumainformed approach, showing sensitivity and understanding of trauma in interactions with clients.

  • Solid knowledge of communities and services in the Durham Region.
