Job Description:


The
Polysomnographic Technologist (Sleep Technologist) performs and analyses comprehensive night-time and day-time studies for the purpose of detecting and treating sleep disorders.

The sleep tech prepares the patients for monitoring, obtains and documents the patients' history and educates the patients on sleep testing, sleep disorders, and relevant treatments.

During data acquisition, the sleep tech monitors the collection of data to ensure proper quality and addresses any technical issues.

The sleep tech constantly assesses and adjusts any therapy applied to the patients. The sleep tech is also responsible for tending to the patients' needs. They will document qualitative observations throughout the collection and create summary reports.

The sleep tech analyzes (scores) the data acquired during the collection and composes a quantitative report for the Sleep Specialist to interpret.


Education:


  • Undergraduate Degree in Health Sciences/Biology or College Diploma in RN, RT, EEG Required
  • Registered Polysomnographic Technologist (RPSGT)
  • Required
  • Current BLS certification, required annually

Experience:


  • Minimum 35 years' experience as a Polysomnographic Technologist performing and analyzing sleep studies is required

Competencies:


  • Performing and analyzing (scoring) sleep studies as per AASM rules
  • Perform Multiple Sleep Latency Tests (MSLT)
  • Able to perform CPAP/BIPAP, oxygen and oral appliance titration studies efficiently
  • Understanding sleep disorders and corresponding treatment
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with others and strong interprofessional skills
  • Demonstrated respect for and a willingness to learn from the professional knowledge of other members of the health care team
  • Demonstrated problemsolving ability, critical thinking and organizational skills
  • A commitment to the professional growth and development of self and others
  • Demonstrated commitment to the concepts of Continuous Quality Improvement and Customer Service
