    Description

    Responsibilities

    :
  • Participates in aspects of registration, including cataloguing and inventorying, and maintaining database files
  • Creates and updates collections database records and paper files
  • Assists with the processing of accessions and describing objects in accordance with professional standards
  • Updates artifact location documentation, including assignment of storage locations, requests for movements of artifacts services and location tracking, in consultation with the Registration Assistant (i.e. firearms, new acquisitions, returned loans, storage reorganizations)
  • Applies unique numbers to artifacts using accepted museum practices
  • Improves the general storage of the artifacts, including re-shelving
  • Travels to various locations across the City, picking up and delivering artifacts
  • Key Qualifications:

  • Post-secondary degree or diploma in museology or museum related studies or the approved equivalent combination of relevant education and/or experience.
  • Experience working in a museum setting or other similar area.
  • Experience in care of collections, cataloguing of objects and/or museum storage techniques.
  • Must possess and be able to maintain a valid Province of Ontario Class "G" Driver's License and must have or shall be required to obtain required City permit for assigned vehicle(s) and equipment.
  • You must also have:

  • Understanding of information technology, particularly database management and digital photography, including taking pictures of artifacts, post-processing of image files, editing and renaming photos.
  • Ability to communicate and simplify complex information.
  • Strong interpersonal skills to effectively work with staff, volunteers, board and other groups.
  • Strong organizational skills to file both manual and electronic files.
  • Firearms licence considered an asset (i.e. handling and storage of firearms) or the ability to obtain a firearms licence.
